Check Out Ringworld Architect, Domino-Based Puzzle Game Made in Godot

The developer explained how Godot shaders are used in the game's creation.

Check out Ringworld Architect, an upcoming domino-based sci-fi puzzle game from Victor Hayé, where you build unusual circular worlds in outer space. The single-player game is powered by Godot.

These megastructures are separate worlds with their own commercial partners and infrastructure. As an expert engineer trusted by the Imperium, you build and develop them to expand humanity's reach. The game plays with familiar sci-fi tropes, such as cloning facilities, soylent green, wildlife sanctuaries, gravity sports, and more. Three distinct ringworld types are planned, each with different mechanics: the Middle-Class Suburbs, the High Security Prison, and the Space Whale Pit Stop.

As explained by the developer on Reddit, Godot shaders play a key role in the project, particularly for prototyping. Using Wave Function Collapse to populate the topology, they needed an extra step to place tiles on a cylinder's surface, since baking the bend directly into the mesh would prevent individual tiles from rotating. Instead, a shader bends the geometry around a set axis and radius after each tile is placed, transforming flat terrain into a ring shape.

The developer also pointed out that the "ringworld architect" idea could work in a lot of different ways beyond their own domino-based game: it could be a resource management game or even a visual novel. They compared it to Citizen Sleeper, built around dice-based mechanics.
