Since 2020, Sam has written over 2,500 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game.

Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, got context around some AI drama, and revealed how Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games.

Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on more than one occasion.

He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times

Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises.

Sony and PlayStation are facing severe backlash for recent anti-consumer changes. It first announced it would stop bringing its single-player, first-party titles to PC, and shortly after, disgusted fans by announcing it would cease the production of physical discs starting in 2028.

The move to end disc production has, unsurprisingly, angered long-time PlayStation fans (and former Sony bosses), leading to social media ratios, protests, petitions, new bill proposals, and class-action lawsuits. Of course, two weeks have passed, and Sony has still chosen not to address the situation, to its own detriment.

The backlash to both decisions has been so strong that efforts to hack and emulate the PS5 and its games have accelerated drastically. Last week, it was announced SharpEmu was working on a PlayStation 5 emulator, and not long after, Game of the Year winner Astro Bot was seen being booted on the software. Now, two new high-profile PS5 exclusives have been booted on the emulator, marking another big step forward.

Over the last few hours, evidence of two of the PS5's biggest exclusives, Demon's Souls, a launch title, and Ghost of Yotei, booting on the SharpEmu emulator, has surfaced. While neither game is properly running yet, it's the beginning of something special.

Ghost of Yotei was revealed to have reached the splash screen, with the picture of Atsu in front of Mount Yotei displayed on the PC, and Demon's Souls managed to reach the Outpost Passage screen, with the quick item menu in the bottom left-hand corner. Neither can be played, but getting them to boot is a massive first step.

It's a similar situation to what happened with the Bloodborne PC emulation. Initially, it was booted, but players only managed a black screen and the title menu. This quickly shifted to a broken version of Yarnham, and within a couple of months, the game became fully playable with the help of community mods and fixes. There is anticipation that something similar could happen with these two games.

Alongside the PC emulator, YouTuber Louis Rossmann is offering a bounty of thousands of dollars for anybody who can bypass the PS5's hypervisor. If they can get past the console's most secure layer, it would open the door to alternate operating systems being booted, and thus, native Steam and PC gaming on the platform.
