GTA 6 confirms its first voice actor as two-time Emmy nominee joins the cast

The next actor to join the cast of GTA VI has been confirmed for the next entry in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series, and this latest addition includes a very-well respected, Emmy-nominated star. Amazingly, this is the first confirmed actor for GTA VI.

Whenever a new actor is confirmed for a Grand Theft Auto game, it’s big news. The ever-popular Rockstar Games series has a rich history of A-list celebrities, many of whom you may not have realised have starred in GTA over the years.

Some of those big names include the likes of the late, great Ray Liotta (Tommy Vercetti, GTA: Vice City), Samuel L. Jackson (Frank Tenpenny, GTA: San Andreas), and Ricky Gervais (as himself, GTA IV).

Who is the Emmy-nominated actor joining the GTA 6 cast?

As revealed in a red carpet interview with AP News, the Emmy-nominated star in question is Stephen Root, who has starred in the likes of Finding Nemo, The Man in the High Castle, Office Space and Barry, to name a few.

In the interview, Stephen Root confirms that his character featured in the first GTA VI trailer and mentions that too many fans recognised his voice from King of the Hill, in which he played a character named Bill Dauterive in the animated series.

The character that Stephen Root is playing in GTA VI is the drug runner, Brian Heder. As Root mentioned, fans had already suspected that he’s the voice of this character, but at least we now have official confirmation from the actor, albeit not officially from Rockstar Games.

‘We guessed it, but it’s now official,’ GTA 6 fans react to Stephen Root confirmation

“I think as long as he doesn't reveal any story details, Rockstar won't mind. He's the one actor that everybody immediately recognised when they heard his voice last year [in GTA VI trailer two], and it helps that he decided to confirm his involvement just a few months before release,” suggested Redditor tylersdaddy.

“He was so good in Barry, happy he's in GTA VI,” said Redditor Slow-Squirrel-57.

“He doesn't gaf about no NDA,” joked OrganizationNo203.

“Loved him in Widows Bay,” added Domination1799.

Will Stephen Root finally win an Emmy at the 2026 Emmys?

Stephen Root is nominated for his second Emmy, which takes place today at 5pm PT and 8pm ET in the United States, which is 1am for our readers in the UK on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

At this week's Emmys, Stephen Root has been nominated for his role in the comedy TV series Widow’s Bay as the character Wyck for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor’.

Root received his first Emmy nomination, also for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor ’, but that came in 2019 when he played Monroe Fuches in Barry. At the time of writing, Stephen Root has yet to win an Emmy award, so hopefully, those fortunes will change this week.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
