New Gundam Release Officially Confirmed For September 25

Gundam has proven to be eternally popular since its debut in the late 70s, and another new release is rolling around in September. Fans will have to wait until next year for the new Gundam anime, which is coming alongside a major video game adaptation, but the franchise's tabletop endeavors are stepping up to fill the gap. Gundam Assemble is a board game arriving in October, but coming even sooner is a new release for the Gundam Card Game.

The Gundam Card Game's upcoming Heavy Dominion Starter Deck was unveiled today at Gen Con 2026. Two cards have been spotlighted by the Gundam Card Game Twitter account, Full Armor Unicorn Gundam (Destroy Mode) and Banagher Links. The former's art is featured on the Heavy Dominion Starter Deck box, which goes on sale September 25, 2026, priced at $15.99.

Heavy Dominion is one of four new starter decks on the way, each featuring a different combination of card colors. The other three, also releasing on September 25, are Aquatic Assault, Raging Onslaught, and Silent Barrage. Green and white cards will make up Heavy Dominion, a deck comprising "heavily-armed units," according to the GCG site. The Heavy Dominion Starter Deck comes with more than just the deck itself; the full contents are:

  • 50-card starter deck
  • 20 resource cards
  • 2 token cards
  • 1 paper damage counter
  • 1 rule/playsheet
  • 1 bonus pack

The website listing also hints at The-O featuring on an included card, with its full art shown. The Heavy Dominion deck is designed to be effective in one-on-one matches, but "it also contains many cards that truly shine in multiplayer matches." Gen Con 2026 is still ongoing in Indianapolis, where the Gundam Card Game booth is specifically celebrating its Freedom Ascension set, which just released a week ago on July 24 and commemorates the game's first anniversary.

Heavy Dominion is the 14th starter deck released for the Gundam Card Game (and likely won't be the last), and in addition to being joined by the other three new starter decks, there is a wide range of new GCG products coming on September 25. The second batch of official card sleeves, a second card case, and a playmat will also join the lineup on that day.

If you're a fan of Gundam but not yet playing the card game, a starter deck is likely the best place to start, simply because purchasing one gives you everything you need to start playing. You may want to do some research on card colors before you pick which one, though. Each of the four new decks has a different color combo, which could determine how you go about collecting future Gundam cards.
