The End Of Oak Street Box Office Debut Dominated By Spider-Man's Record-Setting Third Weekend
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Climbs Even Higher Than Saturday's $67M Projections, Now The Second-Biggest Weekend 3 Haul

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has pulled ahead in its neck-and-neck race with Avengers: Endgame, beating out new release The End of Oak Street in the process.
2026's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, is the 38th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a direct sequel to 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home (which is the highest-grossing non-Avengers MCU movie and the eighth highest-grossing movie of all time). While Brand New Day has been breaking huge box office records, it hasn't consistently beaten Avengers: Endgame (the MCU's No. 1 movie and history's No. 2 movie). While its domestic debut was higher than Endgame's, its global debut and its sophomore domestic haul fell behind the Avengers movie's records in both cases.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has announced that, as of Sunday morning, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is projected to earn a 3-day total of $70 million at the domestic box office by the end of its third weekend in theaters. This sees it earning the second biggest third-weekend domestic haul of all time (not the fourth, as was previously projected). While it has fallen behind four other movies, most notably Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($90.2 million), which is the highest-grossing domestic release in history, it has managed to beat Avengers: Endgame's weekend 3 haul of $63.2 million.
2018's Black Panther, a fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, also earned a weekend 3 haul that was higher than Endgame's. See the current Top 5 chart below:
|
Title |
Domestic Week 3 |
Worldwide Box Office |
|---|---|---|
|
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) |
$90.2 million |
$2.071 billion |
|
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) |
$70 million (est.) |
$2.022 billion (& counting) |
|
Avatar (2009) |
$68.5 million |
$2.743 billion |
|
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) |
$67.4 million |
$2.321 billion |
|
Black Panther (2018) |
$66.3 million |
$1.347 billion |
Even though Spider-Man has only outdone Ryan Coogler's Black Panther by a few million during its third weekend, it has already grossed more than $2 billion worldwide, so its global haul has long since blasted past the 2018 movie's global record. Because Brand New Day is still neck-and-neck with Avengers: Endgame overall, slipping above and below it by various benchmarks, it remains to be seen where it lands on the all-time chart at the end of its run. Given its trajectory, it could very well outgross Endgame domestically and land slightly below it worldwide.
However, this domestic haul is more than enough for Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day to take No. 1 at the domestic box office for the third weekend in a row. It is only the second release of 2026 to top the domestic box office for three consecutive weekends, behind the billion-dollar animated hit The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

While it looked like Spider-Man might be facing major competition from David Robert Mitchell's The End of Oak Street (which features Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor fighting dinosaurs), that movie landed below projections and has been spending the weekend fighting for No. 3 with fellow dinosaur-themed movie PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, which is landing slightly above its own debut projections.
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has therefore maintained its position at No. 2 during its fourth weekend in theaters. Meanwhile, sneaking in at No. 5 is the K-pop concert documentary Katseye: Wild Hearts. With three new releases on the chart, three holdover titles have exited, namely One Night Only (which has fallen from No. 3 in its sophomore weekend), Super Troopers 3 (which has fallen from No. 4, also in its sophomore weekend), and Toy Story 5 (which has fallen from No. 5 during its ninth weekend).
It remains to be seen what new 2026 release will be able to knock Spider-Man: Brand New Day from its perch at the top of the chart. The next major competitor is the Blumhouse horror sequel Insidious: Out of the Further, which debuts on August 21. If that movie has a similar debut to the previous installment, it should gross roughly $30 million. If Brand New Day manages to have a relatively narrow drop of about 50% (this weekend was 51%), it might be able to extend its streak at No. 1 to a record-breaking four weekends.
