3 Best Movies To Watch On Disney+ This Weekend (#1 Is Tom Hardy's 856 Million Sci-Fi)

Disney+ subscribers will find the perfect three-movie binge on the streaming service this weekend, starting August with quite the marathon. On last weekend's Disney+ movie recommendations, I went over the fashion franchise hit The Devil Wears Prada 2, Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*, and Jared Leto's divisive sci-fi entry TRON: Ares, which were three very different movies for Disney+ subscribers to have fun with.
At the time of writing, only Anne Hathaway's The Devil Wears Prada 2 is trending on the streamer's charts. Right now, The Devil Wears Prada 2 appears as Disney+'s most-watched movie in the United States. Looking at that chart, I took the liberty of including another movie that is trending nationwide, and it connects to a major theatrical release that has taken over the world.
Usually, I come up with a few different options that allow Disney+ subscribers to pick and choose what suits them best. While that is not entirely wrong when it comes to our new round of Disney+ movie recommendations, I view this weekend's roster of films as more of a three-movie binge. When they don't share a genre, a common tone or virtue can be found.
To that end, there are two superhero movies on the list, with one of them being among the most crucial releases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The other comes from a different shared universe, also being key to it. As for the non-superhero movie on this weekend's Disney+ list, it is a horror thriller that connects to the MCU in a way.
3 The Avengers (2012)
Starting us off is The Avengers, which emerges as a timely watch this weekend for a couple of reasons. For one, Earth's Mightiest Heroes are coming back later this year for the first time since 2019's Avengers: Endgame in the form of December's Avengers: Doomsday. Adding to that, The Avengers was the MCU's first $1 billion movie.
Given how Spider-Man: Brand New Day just swung past that coveted box office milestone, I feel like the timing is perfect for those who wish to be transported back to the MCU's golden era. The Avengers is the crossover movie that defined what cinematic universes had to be from that point forward. It features a stacked roster of stars playing major heroes, all with Tom Hiddleston delivering a magnetic performance as the villain, Loki. The Avengers is the 10th most-watched movie on Disney+ in the United States.
2 Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come (2026)
This is the only non-superhero movie on the list. Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is available via Hulu on Disney+, with the horror thriller continuing the story of Samara Weaving's Grace, who was hunted by her husband's family in a twisted tradition in the first movie in the franchise.
In Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Grace returns, now having to go through it all again to save her sister, Kathryn Newton's Faith. While this is an original horror franchise, the action-packed movie is a timely watch on Disney+ for a MCU reason. Recently, Weaving was reported to have joined the MCU's X-Men movie as Emma Frost. For anyone wanting to see if she is fit for the role, watch one of her intense lead performances here.
1 Venom (2018)
The final movie in our weekend binge on Disney+ takes it back to the superhero realm. Tom Hardy's Venom pulls in heavy elements from the sci-fi genre, with the film telling the story of how the investigative journalist Eddie Brock bonded with an alien symbiote to become the Lethal Protector, aka Venom, throughout the franchise set in Sony's Spider-Man Universe.
Venom is the highest-grossing movie in the SSU and the franchise's first entry. Given how Sony boss Tom Rothman recently confirmed that the SSU is dead, those looking to honor it this weekend might do so through its most engaging release. Venom is dark, but still fun, and Hardy is simply a delight in the double role of Eddie Brock and Venom. Disney+ subscribers will end the weekend on a vibrant note by picking Venom as the last step of our three-movie binge.
