Henry Cavill's New Sci-Fi Empire Is The Start Of An Era

Henry Cavill has a new science fiction series on the horizon, and it's already bigger than previously thought. Cavill is the best thing to happen to the niche nerd community in a long time. As a popular, well-regarded actor, he has the cache to make things happen in Hollywood and TV Land.

He also has the geeky interests that decades ago were only for a small cohort, but which are now some of the most popular franchises around. Cavill's is even more deeply interested in geek culture than Marvel and DC comics, though. He's the former star of The Witcher, and is helping bring a beloved tabletop miniature wargame to television.

A Warhammer 40K TV show has long been a goal for Cavill. Google "Henry Cavill" and "Warhammer 40K" and you'll find plenty of interviews of him explaining how much he loves the franchise. For years, a Warhammer 40K TV show has been bandied about, but now it looks like we'll finally be getting one.

Prime Video has purchased the rights to the games thanks in large part to Cavill's efforts, who will star in and serve as an executive producer. It's still unclear what exactly the series will be about, when it will air, and for how many seasons, but for the first time in a long time, it feels certain that Warhammer 40K is getting a proper adaptation.

It's a massive franchise, with more lore than one could ever hope to include in multiple TV shows, and it seems like Amazon Prime Video is aware of that. They recently announced another addition to the franchise, and Cavill will also have a hand in the animated series based on another Prime show.

Hold Up, Henry Cavill's Warhammer Franchise Is Already Massive

The Warhammer 40K TV universe, if it can be called that, is already getting a spinoff. On August 3, 2026, Amazon announced it is currently developing a Warhammer 40K animated series based on the Prime Video anthology show, Secret Level, which featured episodes set in the worlds of a variety of video games.

One episode, "And They Shall Know No Fear", is set within the 40K universe. The series will focus on Deathwatch Space Marines, a specialized force that is particularly adept at hunting down alien threats. Henry Cavill is signed on as an executive producer, and the episode's director, Dave Hill, will be co-showrunner alongside John Orloff.

This is big news for a franchise that was so resistant to TV and movie adaptations for so long. Prime Video appears to be taking its directive seriously and is wasting no time getting out Warhammer 40K shows any way that they can. By the time Cavill's flagship series is ready, there may be even more spinoffs in the pipeline.

Henry Cavill's Warhammer Series Isn't Repeating The Witcher's Mistake

Warhammer 40K is a passion project for Cavill, and it's not the first time he's been deeply invested in a project he's starring in. Cavill is also a big fan of The Witcher franchise, and starred in the Netflix series until season 4. Thankfully, it seems like Prime is avoiding the mistakes Netflix made with that series.

Cavill being given executive producing credits seems more than a bone thrown his way. His attachment to two projects suggests Prime is counting on Cavill to provide a creative guiding hand when it comes to the lore of Warhammer 40K, something he tried to do with The Witcher, but that Netflix did not appreciate.
