Alan Ritchson's Inspirational Adaptation With Near-Perfect Audience RT Score Releases On Netflix Tomorrow

Alan Ritchson's inspirational drama has found its wings and is officially arriving on Netflix tomorrow.

After becoming a household name by throwing punches as the titular character in Prime Video's hit series Reacher, a role he's held since 2022, Ritchson has since expanded into action movies as well with Fast X (2023), The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024), Playdate (2025), Netflix's War Machine (2026), and more. Now, a very different role for Ritchson, an inspirational drama showing his softer side, is coming on Netflix.

Over two years after its theatrical release, Ordinary Angels is getting a new streaming home. Directed by Jon Gunn, with a script written by Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig, the 2024 film follows the true story of a hairdresser who single-handedly unites her entire community to help a widowed father (played by Ritchson) save the life of his critically ill young daughter.

Now, Ordinary Angels is officially releasing on Netflix in the United States tomorrow, Tuesday, July 21. The movie is currently streaming on Peacock and is also available to rent or buy on digital platforms, such as Prime Video, from only $3.99.

Other than Alan Ritchson, the cast also includes two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry, Million Dollar Baby) in the lead role alongside Emily Mitchell, Skywalker Hughes, Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, Drew Powell, Nancy Sorel, Amy Acker, and Dempsey Bryk.

Ordinary Angels received positive reviews, resulting in an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics calling it an inspiring tale of everyday heroism that blends compassion with uplifting storytelling, anchored by a heartfelt performance from Hilary Swank that brings warmth and emotional depth.

The movie also has a near-perfect 99% score from audiences, who consider it a compelling true-story drama that skillfully balances humor, emotional intensity, and deeply moving moments that are sure to leave viewers reaching for the tissues.

Despite winning over audiences with its heartfelt story, Ordinary Angels never quite found its wings at the box office, grossing just $20.5 million worldwide against its modest $12–13 million production budget. However, the film's arrival on Netflix could give it the second chance it never quite received in theaters.

With Alan Ritchson stepping away from action to deliver one of his most heartfelt performances, Ordinary Angels may finally find the much larger audience its passionate fanbase has long suggested it deserves.
