PC gamers can claim $70 worth of free games now, includes 'genre-defining' RPG
PC owners have two excellent freebies to claim right now, and collectively they’ll save you around $70 of your hard-earned cash.
As always, this deal is being brought to gamers by the Epic Games Store, which is basically being used as a free game generator these days… Even the brass in charge have acknowledged how most gamers only log on once a month to grab their goodies and go.
For October the Epic Games Store is offering a unique puzzle game in addition to a “genre defining” first-person shooter/RPG.
The "striking" puzzle game Buried Stars is your first Epic Games freebie this October
Kicking things off with Buried Stars, as that’s probably the one most people won’t have heard of.
It’s a mystery game about a group of contestants who find themselves trapped in a survival TV series. The building where auditions are taking place collapses and they need to work together to survive until their rescue arrives.
Naturally communication starts to break down, and they must solve the underlying mystery of what caused the collapse and who might be responsible.

It’s a good one for fans of visual novels and there are branching paths plus multiple endings if that’s also your cup of tea.
Buried Stars usually costs $39.99, so there’s plenty of value in claiming this one.
System Shock 2 invites you to escape annihilation for free
Next is System Shock 2, specifically System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. This one is going to appeal to a lot of gamers, but fans of BioShock, Half-Life, Quake and other such FPS games are urged to give it a go if they haven’t already.
Don’t worry if you haven’t played the first System Shock game either. Both games tell their own self-contained stories so you won’t be missing any key context by jumping to the sequel.
In the game you find yourself trapped aboard the Von Braun spaceship, which has been overrun by hostile elements. You’ve got aliens, cyborgs, malfunctioning robots and more to carve your way through.

Developer Nightdive Studios put a lot of work into the remaster and it’s certainly the definitive way to play. It’s not only been given a visual overhaul, but it also supports cross-platform multiplayer and is mod-friendly.
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is a little cheaper than Buried Stars, usually costing $29.99, but claiming it for free is still saving you a decent chunk of cash.
Out of the two games offered through Epic Games this month, I’d probably recommend System Shock 2 more than Buried Stars. It’s obviously going to have a broader appeal, and I am a sucker for a retro classic. You can’t really go wrong with either game though, especially when they’re both free.
You’ve got one week to grab these games before they’re swapped for something else. They’ll return to their original prices on October 8.
