Netflix's 2025 Fantasy Hit Has A Successor Coming With Possibly Its Biggest Star In Tow
About a year has passed since Yoona and Lee Chae-min captivated both taste buds and hearts in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. Blending modern cuisine and techniques with the charm of a historical romance, this Netflix fantasy sensation is still holding strong a year later, garnering millions of views in 2026 and even finding new life as a webtoon adaptation.
More importantly, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty was also an absolute hit in Korea with a 17.1% viewership rating, according to Nielsen Korea. Recent Netflix hits with similar double-digit viewership ratings, like My Royal Nemesis, Agent Kim Reactivated, and Phantom Lawyer, are also eyeing renewals, and it seems like Bon Appétit, Your Majesty will be joining the party soon with a spiritual successor featuring one of Netflix's biggest recent stars.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Has A Successor On The Way
And Cha Eun-Woo Could Be Its Main Star
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty officially has a successor in the works called Seorabeol Knife, which could star The Wonderfools' and True Beauty's Cha Eun-woo in the lead role. Jang Tae-Yoo, the director of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, will be returning for this new historical cooking series.
Seorabeol is the ancient name of the capital of Korea's Silla dynasty, confirming that Seorabeol Knife will be similarly set in the distant past, albeit in an era far older than Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, which is set in the Joseon dynasty.
According to an initial report by Hankook Ilbo on August 11, Seorabeol Knife will be set in the same world as Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, but with a new title and fresh story. The series was initially also reported as a sequel to Bon Appétit, Your Majesty by Hankook Ilbo, who also reported Cha Eun-woo's casting.
That said, as reported by Star News, Cha Eun-woo's agency, Fantagio, has since clarified that the series is not Bon Appétit, Your Majesty 2, but rather a new series by Jang Tae-yoo. Yoona and Lee Chae-min will thus not be reappearing in the new series. Fantagio also confirmed that Cha Eun-woo was indeed offered the role, but Seorabeol Knife is simply one of the projects that he is considering at the moment, meaning his casting hasn't been confirmed just yet.
Seorabeol Knife is set to follow an Italian-trained chef from the modern era named Kim Jae-gyeom, who is the owner and head chef of a Michelin-star restaurant. In the process of chasing that ever-coveted and elusive three-star rating, Jae-gyeom is transported into the past after tasting some wild honey. Hereafter, he becomes the royal chef of a Silla princess, who just so happens to be a gourmet.
Cha Eun-woo Already Has The Perfect Comeback Project
That said, given the popularity of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, as well as the surge in Cha Eun-woo's popularity with his most recent project, The Wonderfools, it's safe to say bringing the two together would make for an instant hit. Seorabeol Knife would also make for the perfect comeback project for the ASTRO star, who is currently in the midst of completing his mandatory military service.
Cha Eun-woo has also previously starred in only one historical K-drama, Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung, which was released way back in 2019, and it's about time he added another to his filmography.
All that to say, historical fantasy K-dramas of the like have proven successful time and time again, whether that's Alchemy of Souls, Mr. Queen, Moon Lovers, or The East Palace. As such, even if it isn't officially a sequel to Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, coming from the same director with a similar historical setting and premise, Seorabeol Knife is most definitely shaping up to be a spiritual successor to the series and a massive success, especially with Cha Eun-woo in tow.
