PS5 users treated to free slice of gorgeous new 2D platformer

PlayStation 5 users can now download a free demo on the PlayStation store for a brand new 2D platformer that came out earlier this month.

With the hyped up release of Grand Theft Auto VI disrupting the calendar and causing publishers to either pull their games forward or move them back into early 2027, September has been unusually busy for game releases.

With games like The Blood of Dawnwalker, Control Resonant, and Marvel’s Wolverine taking up most of the bandwidth for this month, there are also plenty of smaller games like indies and AAs that are worth mentioning.

One such game is Princess of the Water Lilies, a game which came out on PC in 2025 but is now releasing on consoles this month.

Described as a “hand-crafted 2D platformer blending gentle puzzles with heartfelt boss encounters”, the PlayStation 5 version of Princess of the Water Lilies is available now.

And if you fancied checking it out prior to picking up the full game, a new demo is now available for Princess of the Water Lilies which you can download on your console.

Princess of the Water Lilies looks gorgeous, and is perfect for side-scroller fans

The demo for Princess of the Water Lilies features a small slice of the early game, allowing you to get to grips with the controls and gameplay, while also helping you to understand if the story and graphics are interesting enough to you to make it worth picking up in full.

Princess of the Water Lilies is a side-scroller platformer featuring environmental puzzles, in which you play as a cat who can purr to make plants bloom and machines crumble.

Battles against enemies require precise timing and plenty of courage, where Princess defeats enemies not through combat, but by healing through her purrs.

There are two difficulty modes to choose from: a Kitten Mode aimed at younger and casual players which lowers the challenge and provides a relaxing experience, and a Cat Mode for players who want to test themselves.

The blurb on Princess of the Water Lilies continues: “Every environment and character is meticulously hand-painted and brought to life with fluid animation – lush forests, glowing caverns, strange machines, and adorable creatures.

Frankly, from what we've seen of the in-game art, it looks gorgeous and should be worth checking out for fans of games like Ori and the Blind Forest and Hollow Knight.
