67 Years Later, Supergirl Is Officially More Powerful Than Superman
Supergirl has officially pulled off a God-level feat that not even Superman can claim to have achieved. This display of power elevates Kara Zor-El to a whole new level and makes it clear that, at least in this version of the character, she is more powerful than the Man of Steel himself.
DC Comics has a true S-Tier release that most fans are sleeping on, and it has only gotten more epic with its latest release, Supergirl: Survive #3. This ongoing comic series is brought to life by the creative talents of writers Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan and artist Rod Reis, and is part of DC’s Elseworlds imprint, which is home to various DC titles that take place outside the main universe in alternate realities and typically explore “what if” scenarios.
In this case, Supergirl: Survive explores what would happen if Kara and a baby Kal escaped Krypton together in the same spaceship. This is a different approach from the main continuity, where the two left in separate spacecraft, with only Kara’s ship getting knocked off course. Now, in Supergirl: Survive, readers get to discover what happens when the two cousins are knocked off course to Earth and have to fight for their survival in a universe that is desperate to get its hands on the last surviving Kryptonians.
The latest issue follows Kara as she runs away from the Lantern Corps with Kal in tow, while also managing to steal a Blue Lantern ring for herself. It is what she does with this ring that not only presents a level of power even Superman hasn’t matched throughout his stories, but also firmly establishes Supergirl as the most powerful Blue Lantern of all time.

As a quick reminder, DC’s Blue Lantern Corps is one of the emotional-spectrum Lantern Corps, with its rings fueled by hope. The fact that Kara gets her hands on a Blue Lantern ring out of all the possible emotional-spectrum rings is especially fitting, considering that Superman and Supergirl’s iconic S-shield, which symbolizes the House of El, represents hope.
Supergirl and Superman’s characters have historically represented hope themselves, going far beyond just the “S” on their chests, and we truly get to see just how powerful that innate hope is when Kara unleashes both her most impressive feat of power and the most impressive display of power from any Blue Lantern Corps member: She creates an entire planet with her ring, more specifically, the recently destroyed Krypton.
This new Krypton acts as a traveling safe haven for her and Kal as they slowly make their way across the universe toward Earth, with Kara keeping this construct active 24/7 for weeks on end. This even includes constructs of the people who once inhabited the planet. Further exemplifying this incredible display of power is the fact that this awe-inspiring feat catches the attention of, and even impresses, one of the most powerful characters in DC lore: Ms. Mxyzptlk.
While Mxyzptlk is traditionally MISTER Mxyzptlk, in this Elseworlds tale, we are either presented with a female relative of the imp or a gender-bent version of the character. As a reminder, Mxy is a Fifth-Dimensional imp with unparalleled reality-warping powers who consistently breaks the fourth wall between reader and story, making him one of the most powerful characters in DC lore. So, any acknowledgment of Kara’s power from this being speaks to just how impressive her feat truly is.
While it’s inarguable that Superman has enough power to be a world-destroyer, we’ve yet to see him create an entire planet like Supergirl. So when it comes to the most powerful Kryptonian cousin, the ball, or rather planet, is in Superman's court.
