Dungeon Crawler Carl is getting a surprise new release later this year.

The LitRPG sci-fi fantasy series returns in October 2026 with an all-new adventure as development on the upcoming TV series for Peacock continues. The book series written by Matt Dinniman has enjoyed a bolstered level of popularity in recent years. The series currently consists of eight books, which have been published both physically and digitally, as well as through audiobook format. A webcomic and graphic novel are also ongoing, while reading Dungeon Crawler Carl is easy for those with Kindle Unlimited or Audible.

Now, Renegade Game Studios has confirmed the release date for a new adventure in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. This new project is the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG and its companion, Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, official TTRPG and deck-building games that were crowdfunded into existence. On the BackerKit page for the game, Renegade confirmed the project is estimated to ship by October 31, 2026. This confirms the game is coming out by the end of the month, and will be available to play very soon for its backers.

The game was originally funded earlier this year, harboring a campaign goal of $250,000. However, it blew past this goal almost right away, finishing at $13.3 million from backers. Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG takes players on a TTRPG adventure taking place in the World Dungeon, the main setting of the series. Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable is a deck-building game that focuses on card-crafting, which can be played either solo or with friends. Both games include a plethora of playable races, classes, and rules that allow for flexible gameplay across the board.

The fantasy book series' expansion into the world of tabletop and card games is just one more step in its continued success across the board. This includes the upcoming Dungeon Crawler Carl TV show on Peacock, which is being developed in collaboration with the Seth MacFarlane-owned Fuzzy Door Productions. Audiobook narrator Jeff Hays will be voicing Princess Donut, while everything else about the series remains under wraps. These board games are just part of how the series has expanded recently, and will expand into the future.

As of writing, Dungeon Crawler Carl has sold over 14 million copies worldwide.

The book series is also expected to near its end soon, with Dinniman confirming there will be two more books before the series comes to a close for good. Yet the journey of the franchise's large-scale expansion appears to just be getting started, with the physical games confirming interest is at an all-time high. Since the games will seemingly be shipping before October is over, it won't be too much longer before backers have the product in hand and can reveal more about what to expect.

Dungeon Crawler Carl continues to maintain a high level of success as a sci-fi fantasy LitRPG, bringing the genre to the public eye with its unique blend of humor, serious storytelling, and captivating worldbuilding. As it continues, the book series will likely deliver plenty more memorable moments, which products like the TTRPG offer even more depth to its world.
