The Blood of Dawnwalker sequel tease signals controversial time mechanic to be dropped
The Blood of Dawnwalker developer Rebel Wolves has teased that the game's controversial time mechanic could be dropped in a sequel. This time mechanic just so happens to be the RPG's core feature, and it could result in The Blood of Dawnwalker 2 being an entirely different experience.
The year 2026 has blessed us with some truly exceptional RPG adventures, such as The Blood of Dawnwalker following the acclaimed Crimson Desert from Pearl Abyss. What’s more, following the success of the Rebel Wolves RPG, the developers have already teased that The Blood of Dawnwalker is getting a sequel.
Why might The Blood of Dawnwalker drop its time mechanic in a sequel?
When speaking to Eurogamer, The Blood of Dawnwalker director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said that Rebel Wolves will only consider using the time mechanic if it fits the story being told.
“If we will have parts of the story, or the whole story, to which it fits, then we will use it. If we will have stories where it does not fit, we will not force it,” said Tomaszkiewicz. It’s very likely that whether or not the time mechanic is used in the sequel, it could split the community.
What is The Blood of Dawnwalker time mechanic?
In a nutshell, it’s a 30-day and 30-night cycle. During that time, the player controls Coen, a dawnwalker, and as such, you have a limited time to complete main missions and side quests, as well as make decisions that will help shape your story. Some actions may even consume larger chunks of time.
This all means that a player can’t experience everything the game has to offer in a single run, which encourages multiple playthroughs. So, whether or not the time mechanic returns in the sequel, it will be interesting to see how the developers make the game feel fresh and worthwhile for players to pick up.

When will The Blood of Dawnwalker 2 be released?
The Blood of Dawnwalker 2 - which is not its official name - currently has no release date or release window announced. However, as confirmed on the game's official website, The Blood of Dawnwalker was in development for four years.
With that in mind, considering that Rebel Wolves already has a solid foundation to build upon for The Blood of Dawnwalker sequel, if we’re lucky, maybe we might not have to wait as long as four years the second time round. We're looking at 2030 and beyond.
What did we say in our The Blood of Dawnwalker review?
“The Blood of Dawnwalker deserves to be a new AAA mainstay, and I’d gladly join Coen on future ventures. Rebel Wolves’ debut outing is everything you could want from the former director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it’s also something entirely new,” said GAMINGbible’s Kate in her review, scoring the dark fantasy RPG an “exceptional” 9/10.
“Its time mechanic is risky - and a nightmare for completionists - but it adds a brilliant sense of urgency into the open-world. The Blood of Dawnwalker is all about consequence. Which quests should you tackle? As a human or a vampire? It’s entirely what you make of it, offering up a bold and engaging formula that I’d be glad to see walk away with 2026’s GOTY trophy.”
The Blood of Dawnwalker is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
