George R.R. Martin Posts Heart-Wrenching Blog Post, His First In 6 Months
A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has updated his Not a Blog for the first time since February, giving fans a brief update on his life while celebrating the recent Emmy nominations for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The post, titled 'Better Late Than Never', is a morose read as Martin admits that times are currently tough for him.
Martin Has Had A Tough Year
"This year has been... stressful to say the least. So much has been happening, it's been overwhelming. Some great things, exciting things. Dreams coming true. But there have been nightmares too," his post reads. "I have lost friends. Battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come. I turned seventy-seven last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun. But there have been amazing times as well."
"I suppose that's just life. Of course, I knew that. If you've read my stories, you know that," he continues. "So much to post about... I will try and catch up some... and my minions will help... but my posts are likely [to be] short and rushed."
Martin ends the post on a positive note, lauding A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for the nine nominations it picked up at the Emmys. Though he's disappointed that individual performers didn't pick up any nominations for their acting in the show.
Filming for the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms began in December 2025. The second season, based on Martin's The Sworn Sword, is set to release next year.
The penultimate third season of A House of the Dragon is currently airing, with the season finale releasing next week. A fourth season to finish the adaptation of Martin's Blood and Fire is planned.
After the release of the third season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, presumably in 2028, every one of Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire works will have been adapted by HBO.
The author is currently working on The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. However, it's been 15 years since the release of A Dance with Dragons, which has made fans very sceptical that the series will ever be finished.
