3 Best Movies To Watch On Netflix This Weekend (#1 Is A New Star-Studded Sci-Fi Thriller)

Netflix subscribers will have the chance of watching an exciting new original release from the streaming service this weekend, alongside two licensed films that promise to serve as nice doses of adrenaline, but for wildly different reasons. On last weekend's Netflix movie recommendations, I explored films like Kevin Hart's new comedy, 72 Hours, the sci-fi horror A Quiet Place: Day One, and the musical fantasy Wicked: For Good.

For anyone who did not catch those three movies in the final weekend of July, only one of those releases is currently trending on the streaming service. The first weekend of August on Netflix is still a great time to check out Hart's 72 hours, which is currently the most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States. That is a huge deal.

I decided to more or less mirror last weekend's list in terms of the types of movies subscribers could watch this weekend. As I already mentioned, there is one Netflix Original movie and two licensed films on the list. That said, two of this weekend's selections come from the same genres or tones as a couple of the movies I suggested Netflix subscribers should check out last weekend.

This time around, we have another horror movie, though it casts sci-fi aside for a genre-favorite supernatural twist. In addition to that, Netflix's list of movies also has those who favor sci-fi covered, as a new Original promises to shock viewers. Finally, those two movies are joined by a sci-fi fantasy epic led by one of Hollywood's most popular stars. Check them out below:

3 Five Nights At Freddy's 2 (2025)

The first movie on our list is Five Nights at Freddy's 2. In a year that has proven itself ripe with creative horror stories, as seen by the box office success of Backrooms and Obsession, Netflix subscribers can keep that train going with a major franchise. Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is the second live-action entry in the famous video game franchise that has created a strong following over the years.

The horror movie explores the origins of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, with a talented ensemble backing up some of the absurdness of its story. Five Nights at Freddy's 2's cast includes names like the Scream franchise icons Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, as well as stars like Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Mckenna Grace, Megan Fox, and more. The horror movie is currently the most-watched film on Netflix in the United States.

2 Black Adam (2022)

Following the horror film is Black Adam, which stands as the most different selection on our roster this weekend. The superhero movie is one of the projects that promised to change the DCEU movie franchise in major ways, like bringing back Henry Cavill as Superman after a long wait. However, the film underperformed, and the DCEU was scrapped and replaced by James Gunn's new DC Universe.

Still, Black Adam, which is currently Netflix's 6th most-watched movie in the US, features plenty of elements that make it worth watching on streaming. The DC movie's cast is stacked, with Dwayne Johnson playing the all-powerful title hero and names like Pierce Brosnan, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, and more showing up. There are some brutal action scenes, and the debut of the Justice Society of America makes it worth it for comic book fans.

1 The Last House (2026)

The final movie subscribers should consider checking out on Netflix this weekend is The Last House. It is Netflix's new Original movie, with the sci-fi thriller telling the story of a family that discovers they are trapped inside their house by a mysterious force. They have to band together to survive as they start to run out of resources, while trying to find a way out and prepare for whom, or what, sealed them inside.

The Last House stars Oscar-nominated actor Wagner Moura and The Morning Show's Greta Lee as the married couple trying to escape their home with their kids. Make no mistake, Netflix's new thriller is bound to make it big on the streamer's worldwide charts after debuting this Friday, August 7. It is the perfect movie to end our Netflix recommendations, as it is a must-watch this weekend.
