Pokemon Diamond & Pearl Scrapped 'Mons Have Leaked, And Some Are Real Gross
Pokemon Diamond & Pearl are considered two of the better Pokemon games in the series, though with all Pokemon games, that probably depends on how old the person you ask is. Still, it was a great time for Pokemon, and the game introduced a bunch of new Pokemon to the series that are still massively popular today.
However, just like with all games, there were plenty of content and ideas that never made it into Diamond & Pearl, and were ultimately left on the cutting room floor. Due to how secretive the games industry can be, we usually never see these cuttings, but thanks to a new leak, several cut Pokemon designs from Diamond & Pearl were recently revealed for the first time.
A Bunch Of Scrapped Diamond & Pearl Pokemon Have Leaked
First shared by a Pokemon fan named Lewtwo on their own website, these designs come from the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl: Behind the Scenes DVD – Make All, which detailed a two-year-long development timeline within Game Freak, but was never publicly released.
On the DVD, you can see several Pokemon designs that never made it into Diamond & Pearl, including different designs for Pokemon like Turtwig, Piplup, Chimchar, and all of their evolutions. You can also see some interesting ideas for completely brand-new Pokemon that never made it into the game too.
For example, one of the designs appears to be a Delibird evolution, which looks absolutely goofy, and you can see why it was cut. You can also see what appears to be a pre-evolution for Lapras, an evolution for what looks like Swellow, and a yellow Shellos.
It’s all pretty interesting, and you can kind of see where some designs have been repurposed for other Pokemon. For example, the initial water starter looked to be a dog with lots of fluff and a horn on its head, which could have been picked apart and turned into the final Water evolution Samurott in Pokemon Black and White.
It’s an interesting insight into the development process at Game Freak, and you have to imagine with all the leaks that have come out recently, we might actually get the same down the line for Pokemon Wind and Waves, which looks like it’ll have an impressive number of newcomers.
