Dungeons & Dragons Drops 6 Free Downloads To Claim Now
Dungeons and Dragons has officially dropped six free downloads for players to claim right now, expanding their catalog of available character options and magical items at their disposal. Even though big expansions to the TTRPG are not free, like the upcoming D&D: World of Warcraft book, Wizards of the Coast does often provide a few freebies. In June, for example, a new D&D free download adventure became available for all – and if you haven’t claimed it yet, there’s still time. However, freebies are becoming a lot more frequent for subscribers to D&D Beyond.
Every month, subscribers to D&D Beyond get access to what are called D&D Beyond Drops. These Drops come in different shapes and sizes and are designed for both DMs and players to take advantage of. As seen in a post on D&D Beyond, the new August Drops have been made available, and all of those who are subscribed to the service can now claim them for free, without having to pay any extra costs. There are several new additions, but for players, there are six impressive character options you can grab for free.
As seen in the post, Alarm Pylon is a new magic item in the shape of a 5-foot-tall post made of stone. As a magic action, you can activate it and specify a trigger: if a creature casts a spell from a specific school, if a creature takes damage, or if an object takes damage. If the trigger happens, the Alarm Pylon rings an alarm up to 300 feet. The second magic item in this new iteration of the Dungeons and Dragons D&D Beyond Drop is the Silencing Satchel.
The item has charges, and you can use them to apply a silencing curse on a target. Sync Ring is a magic item that enables you to copy everything that you write, while Unraveling Cloak can literally be unraveled to create a continuous thread. The Wand of Misdirection lets you cast Mislead four times per day. Lastly, the Drops contain the Fey Tormentor Feat, a continuation of the Fey Pact Origin Feat, which was released in May – a perfect extension for spellcasters in D&D who love to cast Hex for free on enemies.
While some of the free new magic items in D&D are arguably useless most of the time, there are some cool additions, like the Silencing Satchel. However, the Fey Tormentor Feat stands out because always having Hex prepared is remarkable, and being able to cast it for free once per day can change a battle. In addition to the freebies for players, there are also freebies for DMs. In August, players get access to five JRPG-inspired encounters and three Sovereign Ooze monsters.
It’s likely that none of these free downloads from D&D Beyond will guide a whole campaign forward, but it may be perfect for a one-shot or, perhaps, a quick-prep interlude session during your campaign. At the very least, you can incorporate these Dungeons and Dragons freebies into your campaign or have them serve as inspiration for whatever homebrew content you’re designing.
