Godzilla Announces Major Crossover With an Award-Winning Sci-Fi Franchise

Godzilla has had some wild crossovers in recent years, from fighting DC Comics' Justice League to unleashing his full terror on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Now, the King of the Monsters is entering another unexpected battle, one that will see him collide with one of the most influential sci-fi stories ever created as the Kaiju helps defend Earth against invaders from Mars.

On August 12, 2026, Godzilla collides with The War of the Worlds, H.G. Wells' classic 1898 sci-fi novel that has since been adapted across radio, film, television, stage, games, comics, and more. Among its most famous adaptations are Orson Welles' legendary 1938 CBS radio broadcast by the Mercury Theatre on the Air, the acclaimed 1953 and 2005 film adaptations, and the BBC television miniseries.

Now, The War of the Worlds and Godzilla are set to collide in IDW Publishing's Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Roar of the Worlds #1 by writer and artist Kyle Baker. The 48-page one-shot will be available in comic shops and digitally for $7.99, serving as the latest installment in IDW's Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents anthology, which reimagines classic works of literature by inserting Godzilla into their stories for unexpected crossover chaos.

Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents is a 2026 anthology comic series from IDW Publishing that expands on the success of 2025's Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre, which brought to life epic Godzilla mashups with Jay Gatsby, Sherlock Holmes, and the Time Machine. Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents is currently slated to feature four literary mashup releases, with IDW Publishing already having released Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla and Godzilla's The Odyssey.

In addition to the upcoming Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Roar of the Worlds, IDW Publishing also has a Wizard of Oz crossover planned with The Kaiju of Oz #1. This title is expected to release on October 7, 2026, and will be brought to life by writer Mike Costa and artist Ryan Browne. The official synopsis teases: “Welcome to the Wonderful Land of Oz — where houses fall from the sky, scarecrows and tin men come to life, witches rule from specific compass directions, and... Godzilla reigns supreme?!”

While the Wizard of Oz release is still several months away, fans of the Kaiju only have to wait less than a month for the War of the Worlds crossover. Fans looking for a better idea of what they can expect from such a mashup can find the official synopsis below, which also confirms that the issue will contain part three of Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham:

In this oversize one-shot, comic book legend Kyle Baker joins the fun to help Godzilla defend the planet against invaders from Mars! The War of the Worlds regaled readers with the story of what happened in England when faraway invaders arrived. This comic asks a much more important question... what was going on in Japan? The answer: Martians were getting smashed left and right by the King of the Monsters!

And that’s not all — this issue contains part three of Tom Scioli’s “Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham.

IDW Publishing’s Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents anthology is one of the most fun Godzilla projects in recent years, and hopefully, it is just the beginning of more wild crossovers for the King of Monsters.
