Avengers: Secret Wars Rumor Completely Shut Down By Kevin Feige
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is shaking things up for its Avengers-centric franchise.
Phase 6 is nearing its end, as The Multiverse Saga only has a handful of TV shows and movies left before it concludes the vast story arc. While Marvel Studios is in full marketing mode for Avengers: Doomsday, there is still one more Avengers movie that will serve as a finale to this plot.
Earlier this year, several rumors were floating around that Avengers: Secret Wars, the final film in the Phase 6 slate, was being considered to be split up into two separate movies, but with a catch. Supposedly, it was going to depend on how Avengers: Doomsday performs at the box office and its reception.
However, Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige has now finally set the record straight, as he confirmed to Joshua Horowitz in a new interview when he was asked about making Avengers: Secret Wars as a two-parter, saying that "not [in] this world." Principal photography is set to start this summer on the 2027 entry.
As there has been a lot of discussion about what the MCU timeline will look like after Avengers: Secret Wars, Horowitz also asked Feige about the future of the franchise, and whether or not a reboot is on its way. The Marvel Studios boss stated, “No, but I look to the comics as I always do in terms of our storytelling, both the Secret Wars, but particularly [In] the [Jonathan] Hickman ‘Secret Wars’ from 10 years ago, there's a nice roadmap to where we can go.”
As of writing, very few details have been shared about the final Phase 6 installment, outside the fact that Anthony and Joe Russo will be back to direct it, after helming Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Doctor Doom, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps' leading stars also returning.
However, a few key players from the 2026 ensemble will also be back in the next film, as Letitia Wright revealed exclusively to ScreenRant's Liam Crowley that Shuri, a.k.a. Black Panther, is set to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. Simu Liu, who is making his big-screen comeback as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday, has also confirmed that he is in the 2027 follow-up.

One of the biggest mysteries with the MCU right now is who Sadie Sink is playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the Stranger Things star may actually be involved with Avengers: Secret Wars. In November 2025, it was reported by Deadline that she would reprise whoever she is playing in Tom Holland's summer blockbuster in the upcoming team-up project.
However, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm or deny whether Sink is actually part of the Russo brothers' upcoming ensemble. With San Diego Comic-Con taking place this week, the Hall H presentation on Saturday, July 25, is expected to have several announcements for the MCU, which may include updates on the Avengers: Secret Wars cast.
Outside of the big 2027 finale, Marvel Studios also has several TV shows coming up as part of Phase 6, including the new VisionQuest series, which arrives on Disney+ in October. While a formal date hasn't been shared yet, Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will premiere sometime in March 2027.
