Game Of Thrones Officially Returns In 2027 With A Brand-New Finale

Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros Will Fix 2019's Horrifying Finale

Still of Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones.

The final season (or maybe two) of Game of Thrones will go down in history as one of the most significant collective disappointments in television history. While nothing will ever really make that right in the eyes of many, it would be nice to get the potential at some catharsis for those who invested years of their life in the show.

That is sadly never going to come in the form of a redo or another direct TV adaptation, so those looking to right the wrongs of that time will have to look elsewhere to do so. Happily, that opportunity is seemingly about to present itself, and in a medium that you might not have expected it to crop up in.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros

In case you haven't been keeping up with the franchise on the video game front, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is an upcoming real-time strategy release that's set to arrive in 2027. In it, you'll be thrust into the center of the narrative at the same point in the timeline as where the show takes place.

You can take control of House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or even the Night King’s Army of the Dead in your quest to conquer and secure the Iron Throne. Along the way, you'll need to fight your foes on the battlefield, scheme and plot your way to power, and ensure that those who serve underneath you are happy, at least until you have what you want.

You'll also have access to great heroes depending on the faction you choose to play, all of whom come with their own unique abilities, and the power to turn the tide of battle. They can level up and unlock further prowess along the way, so careful management of these powerful resources is key to your potential success.

All of that is exciting in and of itself, but the real boon is that it opens up the opportunity for players to finally make the concluding moments of the war for the Iron Throne their own. If you want the Targaryens to come out on top (for some reason), you can do that, or finally give the Starks the grandeur they failed to gain and secure King's Landing. Westeros is literally your oyster.
