God Of War Laufey To Likely Include Iconic Ragnarok Character

It's Really Starting To Look Like Tyr Has A Role In God Of War Laufey

Even though we were shown a bumper 20 minutes of gameplay during God of War Laufey’s reveal, we still don’t know much about it or who from the series might return. There have been rumblings that Tyr might be back to play a role in Faye’s journey, and evidence solidifying those rumblings has been right under our noses for months.

MP1st was the site that originally suggested we might see Tyr’s return in Laufey shortly after the first details about the next God of War game were revealed. It’s fitting that the same site was the one to spot a State of Play watchalong on which Diogo Morgado, Tyr’s Portuguese voice actor, spoke briefly on whether the character might return, and it was posted two months ago.

“If you only knew how restrictive an NDA is,” Morgado replied in jest when asked whether we’re going to see Tyr in Laufey. “Once this State of Play is over, I’ll tell you on a scale of one to ten just how hard I had to bite my tongue to not say anything.”

That’s by no means confirmation that Tyr is in Laufey. However, Morgado takes it upon himself to start jumping through hoops when, if he hadn’t been back in the Santa Monica voice booth and wasn’t allowed to say anything, there’s really no need to. Just say no, I won’t be in Laufey, and move on.

That said, a flat no should have probably been the response regardless of whether Tyr will be back in the next God of War game or not. These things are so tied up in red tape and secrecy, I wouldn’t be surprised to discover at a later date that Morgado got in trouble for even mentioning an NDA. When the whole point of the NDA is to prevent you from talking about who might show up in a new video game, mentioning that you signed an NDA, even if you don’t explicitly note what it prohibits you from saying, kind of defeats the purpose of signing one at all.

Potential spoilers for Ragnarok and its Valhalla expansion ahead.

How And Where Tyr Might Show Up In God Of War Laufey

Tyr plays a key role in Ragnarok. Two of them, in fact, as the first Tyr you meet turns out to be a decoy Odin uses to fool Kratos while he keeps the real Tyr prisoner. Tyr doesn’t die in Ragnarok; however, the events of the sequel’s Valhalla DLC may explain how he might have a role to play in Laufey.

Tyr can enter Valhalla because he has previously died. That’s confirmed in the expansion, where it’s explained that he died while losing his arm to Garm. He doesn’t stay dead, but that doesn’t revoke his ability to enter Valhalla. Only those who have never died cannot enter.

It has already been confirmed that the events of Laufey will run parallel to the events of God of War and Ragnarok. Somewhere along that timeline, Tyr dies. At that moment, he will be transported to the afterlife. That’s where Faye is in Laufey, and where Tyr will then pop up. He will then disappear again once revived back in the Nine Realms.
