We Tasted Everything On The New McDonald’s x Xbox Menu
Since 2020, Sam has written over 2,500 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game.
Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, got context around some AI drama, and revealed how Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games.
Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on more than one occasion.
He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times.
Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises.
McDonald's and Xbox are teaming up for a new collaboration. The crossover will see a range of new items appear on the fast-food giant's menu, alongside a range of in-game rewards for those who go to fill their bellies.
Yesterday, the two hosted an event in London where all the new items were on display and available to taste. We checked them out and have detailed them here for you.
The McDonald's x Xbox Collaboration Is Coming Soon, And Here Are All Of The Things You'll Be Able To Buy
Based on the in-game rewards, we knew which Xbox games and franchises would appear as part of this promotion: Halo, Fallout 76, Forza Horizon 6, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush Saga. We just didn't know what menu items they would be tied to — but now we do, and we've listed them all below for you:
- Halo: Campaign Evolved - Halo Moa McNuggets (Garlic and Black Pepper Nuggets)
- Overwatch - Sugared Donut
- World of Warcraft - WoW Dragonbreath Dip (Fiery Buffalo Dip)
- Forza Horizon 6 - Forza Sour Cherry Fizz
- Candy Crush - Candy Crush McFlurry
- Fallout 76 - Fallout Blamco Cheesy Bites (Cheese and Potato Rings)
After trying it all, I was pretty underwhelmed. The Garlic and Black Pepper McNuggets recently appeared on the menu, and, as a big McNugget enjoyer, I wasn't a fan. The Sugared Donut and McFlurry are exactly that. The WoW Dragonbreath Dip had a nice heat to it, but the flavor was just fine, and the Sour Cherry Fizz was equally okay. The only saving grace was the Cheesy Potato Bites; they still weren't as good as some of the other cheese offerings, but they were definitely the show-stopper.
At this point, the collaboration is limited to the UK and Ireland, but that's not to say it won't reach other markets over time. McDonald’s chief marketing officer Tim Kenway said about the promotion, "We're bringing parts of these iconic gaming worlds to life, giving fans the chance to experience food they have only ever seen on screen,” so here's hoping it hits the US soon, or maybe not, depending on how that menu sounds.
