Xbox Anniversary McDonald's Collab To Include Free In-Game Items
Xbox Owners Will Soon Be Able To Get In-Game Rewards By Visiting McDonald's
Xbox plans to continue its 25th anniversary celebrations by teaming up with McDonald’s for a rather unique crossover. The fast food chain’s UK restaurants will soon sell food inspired by some of Xbox’s biggest games, and customers will be given codes for in-game rewards along with their meals.
Unlock In-Game Rewards For Xbox's Biggest Games At McDonald's
There will be in-game rewards from six of Xbox’s flagship series available during the McDonald’s event. The six Xbox-owned games selected for fast food duty really highlight which of its series it values most. Halo, Forza, Fallout, and Overwatch are all featured, although interestingly there is no reward tied to Gears of War.
I’m guessing that’s more to do with E-Day not releasing until after this promotion is over, so there’s no big Gears game to hand out rewards for.
The other two games included in the promotion are World of Warcraft and Candy Crush Saga. A reminder that when Xbox acquired Activision Blizzard, it also added King to its portfolio, which means it now owns the incredibly popular match-three game. All six in-game rewards you’ll be able to get at McDonald’s during the Xbox crossover can be found below.
- Master Chief Armor (Halo: Campaign Evolved)
- Sugar Bomb Bundle (Fallout 76)
- Car Voucher (Forza Horizon 6)
- Kiriko Donut Break Emote (Overwatch)
- Red Hot Portable Bakery (World of Warcraft)
- Booster Bundle (Candy Crush Saga)
There's Going To Be Xbox-Themed Food Too
“What excites me about this partnership is that we're bringing parts of these iconic gaming worlds to life, giving fans the chance to experience food they have only ever seen on screen,” McDonald’s chief marketing officer Tim Kenway said about the upcoming crossover (thanks, TrueAchievements). “As a huge Fallout fan, I'm most excited for the Blamco Cheesy Potato Bites.”
That’s right, not only will there be in-game items to unlock at McDonald’s, but each of the six featured games will also have its own new food item added to the menu. Fallout’s contribution is the only one revealed so far, so now is the time to let your imaginations run wild. I’d assume Candy Crush will have a McFlurry of some kind, while the Overwatch reward suggests there might be a Kiriko donut dessert option too.
There is a caveat to all of this. For now, at least, the McDonald’s x Xbox crossover is limited to the UK and Ireland. That doesn’t mean that will remain the case forever, though. McDonald’s Pokemon crossovers tend to get a staggered release and pop up in different parts of the world at different times of year. That might be the case for this Xbox promotion too.
