The Empyrean series is about to expand in a surprising new way.

Rebecca Yarros has a new Fourth Wing release coming in 2027, with the upcoming project already available to pre-order. Yarros' Empyrean series has seen major growth in recent years, with the author now working on a number of new projects in the ongoing fantasy series. The next release will be Threshing Day, a short story collection featuring 13 new tales set in the universe from the perspectives of many key characters. The book will be released on September 29, 2026. However, it's no longer the only upcoming release in the series.

A new listing on Amazon reveals that Fourth Wing is getting a graphic novel adaptation. The listing, titled Fourth Wing, The Graphic Novel: Volume One, promises a retelling of the original fantasy novel, with Yarros serving as the writer for the new project. Illustrations for the 256-page graphic novel will be done by Anabel Rossi. According to the pre-order page, the book will be released on April 9, 2027, in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats. This makes it the second confirmed upcoming installment of the Empyrean series.

Pre-orders are available for both a standard and Deluxe Signed Edition of the book. According to the product description, it will adapt the first 22 chapters of the original book. The graphic novel was originally announced by Yarros in March 2025, confirming she would be writing six graphic novels that would adapt all three currently released novels in the series. This includes teaming up with various illustrators for the works, with Ten Speed Graphic, Piatkus, and Entangled Publishing being involved. Ten Speed Graphic publishes this first volume of the Fourth Wing graphic novel.

But the graphic novel is just one of two adaptations of the first novel currently in the works. An upcoming Fourth Wing TV show on Prime Video is being produced, with the streaming service confirming the show was greenlit in May 2026. Meredith Averill serves as showrunner while Yarros, Michael B. Jordan, Lisa Joy, Jonathan Nolan, and Athena Wickham will serve as executive producers. Joy will also direct the first episode, bringing Violet Sorrengail's story to the small screen.

As for the graphic novel adaptation, this first volume is only the beginning. Five more are planned, which will bring Violet and other dragon riders to life as their stories are re-told in a drawn format. This, in addition to the short story collection, shows just how much the Empyrean books have grown since the original five-book plan that Yarros set out to create. As of writing, it's unknown when books four and five will arrive. But it's clear the series will have plenty for fans to engage with beforehand.

More information about the Fourth Wing graphic novel and subsequent installments will likely be revealed in the coming months. Since the book is still eight months away, it'll be quite some time before other details, like the cover art, are confirmed. But it's a good step for the series' expansion, and one that confirms plenty of high-end plans going forward.
