Pokemon Center Cyber Attack Leads To Canceled 30th Anniversary Orders And Stolen Info

One week after Valve issued a warning to anyone who has purchased Steam hardware in Europe recently due to a cyber attack, The Pokemon Company has revealed it, too, has been affected by the same data breach.

Pokemon Company Warns Customers Of Recent Cyber Attack

Parvytcg has shared screenshots of an email being sent to potentially affected customers who recently made a purchase through the Pokemon Center. Again, in Europe, with the same third-party distribution company, CEVA Logistics, the one named as the target of the cyber attack.

The list of personal details that may have been stolen is almost identical to the list shared by Valve last week. They include your name, email address, phone number, and the exact details of what you ordered from the Pokemon Center. No card or bank account details, but the fear here is that those with your personal info may use it to pose as Valve or the Pokemon Center in an attempt to get those additional details out of you.

Affected Customers May Have Had Their Orders Canceled

Even though the headline here is that Pokemon Center customers' information has leaked thanks to a cyber attack on a third-party vendor, many of those affected will likely be just as bothered by how The Pokemon Company is trying to lessen the impact of the attack. It’s attempting to do that by canceling orders placed through the Pokemon Center at a time when they might have been affected by the cyber attack.

That, unfortunately, seems to include orders placed for the Pokemon TCG: 30th Celebration expansion. The highly anticipated anniversary set won’t be released until September. However, the pre-order window opened a while ago, and everything in the collection sold out almost immediately. Pokemon’s TCG expansions do that at the best of times, but this upcoming set being an extra special one meant it sold out even faster than usual.

If you live in Europe and you managed to secure a 30th Celebration TCG pre-order, you might want to check your emails. If you were potentially one of the many affected by the cyber attack, not only might some of your personal information now be in the hands of those responsible for the attack, but you may no longer have a pre-order secured for items in the upcoming expansion.

If you have bought anything through the Pokemon Center recently, be vigilant if contacted by someone claiming to be from The Pokemon Company, particularly if they ask you for any personal information. There’s also currently a warning on the Pokemon Center website letting people know orders will take longer than usual right now, presumably while The Pokemon Company tries to put out the fires caused by this hack.
