Overwatch Shows New Vampire-Inspired Hero & Moves Sombra to Support

BlizzCon 2026 was full of exciting announcements, and, of course, it couldn't run without Overwatch. 

Doctrine, Hero 54, a new Support character, will join the roster in Season 5, bringing "Overwatch's ultimate vampire fantasy" and completing the Reign of Talon story.

He manipulates lifeforce with his scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones, providing speed boosts while also damaging enemies.

He can fly away from the battle or infuse his teammates to make their and his own attacks faster. Doctrine's ultimate is Deliverance, which sends his bats to overheal friends and reduce the maximum HP of foes by up to 50% for 8 seconds. Blizzard knows what you're thinking:

"Now, before you get the wooden stakes out and ask for a nerf, know that Deliverance is more disruptive than deadly. Its true strength comes from tipping the scales of battle by empowering allies and weakening foes at the same time."

The Hero is perfect for those who want to "influence every fight through precision and strategic decision-making." 

Doctrine awakes in Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, a new Escort map that takes you to a remote Icelandic prison. 

Overwatch Spotlight returns in February 2027, and Blizzard will share a roadmap for the year. It will also tease Hero 55, and you can already start guessing. Many fans believe (or hope) we'll get the "Omnic detective".

Meanwhile, Support players will get another, very familiar character: Sombra will be moved to the category from the Damage roster in Season 5.

Her right-click ability, Hotfix, can now heal allies for a set amount of health and also hack health packs and deployables. Moreover, her Virus is not Cyberspace, a projectile that creates an area that damages enemies and heals teammates.

As for the perks, all of them, except for CTRL ALT ESC, have been replaced. The other minor perk will now be Life Hack, making EMP apply Hotfix to allies. Her major perks are: hacking health packs with Hotfix reduces its main cooldown by 4 seconds and Cyberspace's healing is doubled on allies below half health.

While Roadhog stays among Tanks, his scrap gun is described as a shotgun firing in two bursts, and his right-click is now Trash Compactor, absorbing enemy projectiles and bunching them up into a ball of scrap.

His Scrap Hook perk allows him to reload 4 ammo instead of 2, while the other minor perk reduces the hook's cooldown by 80% during his ult. The Pulled Pork major perk has been replaced by Toxic Exhaust, which slows down and damages enemies while Trash Compactor is active.

Sombra has been reworked multiple times, and, naturally, players are not very happy about yet another shift, some expressing concerns that she won't be able to heal well enough. I guess we'll see when Season 5 launches on October 6.

Aside from the changes, Blizzard offers a great present for all players: the BlizzCon Mythic Gift, which grants you one complete Mythic bundle from Seasons 1-14 after you finish a game.
