Obsidian to Preserve Its "Creative Identity," Bethesda President Says

Obsidian, a studio known for Fallout: New Vegas, Avowed, The Outer Worlds, and Grounded, joined Bethesda as part of Xbox's continuing reset. The restructuring announcement stated that Obsidian will continue working on its projects, including Grounded. Bethesda president Jill Braff shared details about the studio's future after the changes.

As reported by Aftermath, Braff addressed employees by email and assured them that Obsidian will preserve its "creative identity" and that its leadership will remain and continue to lead the studio, which will now report to her.

The Fallout franchise will still be helmed by Bethesda. The new Fallout project will be developed in collaboration between the two studios – a structure that supports the "franchise-led model."

"The creative identity and strengths that make Obsidian distinct will remain at the core of their studio and work," Braff wrote in the email to employees. "[CEO] Feargus [Urquhart] and the Obsidian leadership team will continue to lead Obsidian, with the studio reporting to me. Bethesda Game Studios will continue to lead the Fallout franchise."

"Together, the teams will build on their longstanding relationship and the early work already underway on a new Fallout project, with more to share in the months ahead. This structure supports the franchise-led model we've been strengthening while keeping accountability for both the studio and the franchise clear." 

Braff also discussed her collaboration with Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart and expressed her respect for him:

"I've had the opportunity to get to know Feargus Urquhart and his team over the past six years, and I have great respect for what they've built. Obsidian has extraordinary creative talent, deep expertise, and a long history of creating memorable games and experiences. I'm looking forward to working more closely with them."
