A Bretonnia rework is definitely on Creative Assembly's 'to-do list' for Total War: Warhammer: 'It's not quite the finest of wines now'
"We really enjoyed making it when we did, but as we skilled up, as individuals developed, and as the tools have improved, yeah, it shows its signs of age. It's certainly on our to-do list, it's on our radar, just like the Vampire Counts were, and I'm pleased people stuck with us, because we knew that they wanted it, and that we had ideas for it."
"It was a very long wait in getting there, but seeing it coupled with Nagash and Neferata being added in, it makes a bit more sense why it took the time it did."
"There are a lot of things on our list. For the longest time Norsca and Vampire Counts were our top two. Now that those have been crossed off, it's still a list, there are still things we'd like to do, but we've gotten better over time. You know, I'd like to say if you looked at things we made 10 years ago and what we make now, it's generally better by and large, but it does create this almost ouroboros of updating content infinitely."
"We've got this experience we're happy with. If this is how it was left forever, we'd be happy with it. But there's a couple of places where we think maybe we're not."
What's the opposite of aging like fine wine? Though I must admit there's some irony in Bretonnia—a backward feudal society of knights and peasants—having aged poorly. I played some Fay Enchantress in the Lords of the End Times, as a roleplay campaign to get revenge on Nagash for her poor ending in the lore, and though their cavalry is still very strong and their farm economy is nothing to shrug at, they just have so many less options and dedicated mechanics versus other factions now.
The long-awaited rework for the Vampire Counts has me hopeful for Bretonnia's future, though. While, as Aldridge says, it may be "a very long wait", I've got enough trust in Creative Assembly from the quality of previous race reworks to know they'll do a good job, and Bretonnia is definitely the faction most sorely in need of a rework, with the lizardmen following in close second place.
