Within Minutes Of Going Live, PlayStation's Resident Evil Trailer Is Flooded With Physical Media Comments
The new trailer for Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie was up for literally two minutes before it got invaded by the usual comments about Sony's physical media controversy.
It’s been more than three weeks since PlayStation controversially announced that it was going to be ceasing disc production in early 2028 and moving into an all-digital future. That unsurprisingly made consumers very angry, but it has admittedly been a surprise to see that the backlash hasn’t gone away one bit.
Every single thing that PlayStation has posted about in the weeks since the announcement has been nearly entirely focused on physical media, with fans making their thoughts heard at every opportunity. The latest victim in the attempt to make PlayStation say anything about the situation is Zach Cregger’s highly-anticipated Resident Evil movie.
Yep, They’re Even Going For Movies Now
Earlier today, a new trailer for the Resident Evil movie was shared by PlayStation on its YouTube page, which makes sense since they’re co-producing the movie. The trailer itself is great and gives us our best look at the film so far, but the new references to the overall series aren’t what most people have focused on.
I watched the trailer as soon as it went live, and within literally two minutes, the comments section was already swarming with exactly the kind of response you’d expect. Even though this isn’t a game, PlayStation’s involvement in the movie and its posting of the trailer mean that pointed remarks like “Looking forward to buying the Blu-ray!” and “No disc, no buy” are everywhere.
It's honestly a bit of a sour reminder that PlayStation hasn't responded to the situation at all, choosing to just keep putting its partners in the firing line instead.
As of the time of writing, it doesn’t seem like the trailer has received many dislikes due to the situation, unlike a lot of other things PlayStation has shared, but it is a very clear sign that PlayStation still can’t escape the controversy it created. There are some comments about the movie itself, but they are unsurprisingly outnumbered.
While it's a bit of a shame to see so many developers, producers, and creators taking the brunt of the anger because PlayStation won't come out and respond to the backlash, it is good to see so many defending physical media. It apparently won't come to too much in the end, but don't stop letting your feelings be heard.
