Stellar Blade: Blood Rain just got a new trailer in the form of a music video - and fans overwhelmingly hate it. That is because the entire thing is clearly AI-generated and looks uncanny at best, soulless at worst.
The music video shows our new protagonist, Evie, singing a K-pop song and acting in a music video. However, given the nature of generative AI, Evie’s model changes with every shot, and seeing her “sing” is just off-putting. Put simply, fans hate it, and are hoping this kind of work doesn’t end up in the final game.
"Wanna be in LOVE" Feat. Evie was uploaded to the official Shift Up channel earlier today, and has amassed 33k views at the time of writing. With that said, it’s also amassed a hell of a lot of negative comments, disappointed to see this kind of slop put out by the devs.
“Your RAM just went up in prices while watching this video,” reads one comment.
“I mean...you could have made an animated loop with her actual model,” says another. “You own the game and its assets after all…”
“I hope Hyung-tae [Shift Up CEO] wakes up before the game is irrevocably ruined,” says another fan.
I would struggle to even see the value in this from the perspective of a gen-AI proponent. The video just looks bad, and is made even worse by a blend of Evie’s stylised design and “real” people throughout the video. As one fan points out, I am sure it is entirely within Shift Up’s means to make an actual Evie music video, commissioning a K-pop artist and then working on the animations in-house. Stellar Blade certainly sold well enough to make that happen.
Alas, we get this instead. I can’t even say that this is a new look at Bloodrain, because it’s all AI-generated. Unless Bloodrain has AI slop shoved in there, too, of course. Many are hoping that is not the case, and this music video is not a sign of things to come.
