Fight Club's Final Scene Recreated as Cyberpunk-Style Animation

Wonki Choi's Blender-made 3D animation is a brilliant nod to David Fincher's Fight Club (1999). "You met me at a very strange time in my life" is an iconic line from the final scene, in which the main character and his girlfriend watch the buildings around them collapse. 

In Choi's reimagination of the scene, however, the characters are wearing Dark Souls-like metal helmets paired with Cyberpunk-style grungy clothing. The camera movement, the texturing on the clothes, the color palette, and the lighting in the scene are reminiscent of Alberto Mieglo's art for Love, Death + Robots' first episode, The Witness.

In the scene, Choi combines realistic, detailed 3D environments and characters with stylized 2D VFX for the explosions, which further reinforces the Love, Death + Robots vibe. Some users also mentioned that the piece reminded them of Dorohedoro's visual style, but the author replied that he was not familiar with the series.

Though some users initially thought this was an AI animation, many noted that the scene clearly has too many details that have been put there intentionally. You can see the artist's own logo and a patch with the flag of South Korea (where Choi is from) on the girl's jacket. Plus, the lighting in the scene is very much Blender-esque. 

Earlier this month, Choi shared his entry for pwnisher's Gauntlet of Gods Community Challenge. His character, Hwarang 2077, made it to the top 100 submissions, meaning it's going to be included in the official Gauntlet of Gods card deck.
