PUBG Mobile World Cup Tournament Postponed After A "Severe" Food Poisoning Outbreak
If you're big into esports, you'll probably know that the Esports World Cup is currently on at the moment, an event which hosts esports tournaments for all the biggest games you can think of, ranging from fighting games like Street Fighter 6, to sports games like EA FC 26, all the way to even non-digital sports like Chess.
For many, it's the stuff of dreams to compete there, but for a good handful of people, the entire event has turned into a nightmare. That's because it's been confirmed that a very severe case of food poisoning has broken out at the event, which seems to have impacted the PUBG Mobile tournament most brutally of all.
PUBG Mobile Tournament Postponed Thanks To "Severe" Food Poisoning
This was first reported by esports journalist Richard Lewis on Twitter. He claimed in a tweet that matches on the Battle Royale stage would most likely have to be postponed, as a "suspected severe food poisoning" outbreak had occurred. Upon initial reporting, it was confirmed that four people had come down with food poisoning, but this has apparently risen to 20 since then.Lewis reports that the situation was so dire, that a makeshift medical tent had been deployed to treat people on scene, and that several people had been hospitalized. He also shares what appears to be live videos from the scenes, which are apparently being shared on Chinese social media, with some players being rolled out on stretchers looking like they're in severe discomfort. This reporting was later confirmed by the EWC itself in a video statement announced during the show.
"We have been made aware that members of multiple teams have reported feeling unwell and are currently receiving treatment and the support they need," says the broadcaster. "Our immediate priority, of course, is the health and wellbeing of those affected, and we are providing them with that care as we speak."
It's then announced that two of the day's planned matches will be postponed until tomorrow, and that the EWC will keep up to date on what's going on and provide updates when possible. It has also been made clear that it's working on understanding what went down, to ensure that updates are as clear and accurate as possible.
