Warner Bros patent reveals the revival of flopped franchise with new Sims-like title

Warner Bros could be preparing to revive one of its most unexpected video game franchises, with a new trademark filing suggesting that a lovemaking twist on The Sims could be making a return to gaming.
Reality TV has gone all-in on dating and love shows in the last decade, with the likes of Love Island and Celebs Go Dating being global successes.
But aside from a few raunchy scenes in some fantasy RPGs like The Witcher and Fable, the gaming industry has barely scratched the surface.
Warner Bros. once tried, though, with a Sims-esque Nintendo Wii/DS title that built on The Bachelor IP.
Sadly, it bombed.
However, some 15 years later, it looks like Warner Bros. isn't quite ready to give up on the idea just yet.
The Bachelor could be getting a 'second chance'
As of October 28, Warner Bros. sneakily filed a trademark application for The Bachelor: Second Chance with the European Union IP Office.
Although trademark applications don't always translate into actual releases, there's plenty of reason to believe this one could be gaming-related.
The filing reportedly includes more than a dozen references to video game-related products and services, including downloadable computer games, mobile gaming software, console titles and PC releases.
Interestingly, these gaming references appear twice as frequently as those relating to film.
That's certainly an intriguing development, particularly when you consider that The Bachelor already has a rather unfortunate history in the gaming world.
Back in 2010, Warner Bros released The Bachelor: The Videogame for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Unfortunately, the game was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews from both critics and players, making it a rather unsuccessful attempt to bring the popular dating show into the interactive entertainment space.
Now, however, the publisher could be preparing to give the franchise another opportunity.
While the trademark doesn't reveal any actual gameplay details, its name has certainly sparked some interesting possibilities.
The 'Second Chance' subtitle could suggest a sequel of sorts, potentially allowing players to revisit familiar faces from the television series, but also serves as a tongue-in-cheek stab at its own previous failures.
One possibility is that the game could feature contestants who previously failed to find love on the show, giving them another opportunity to compete for a relationship.
Players could potentially take control of these contestants, make decisions, and influence how their romantic journeys unfold.
It's an interesting concept, particularly if Warner Bros decides to lean into the life-simulation genre with something resembling The Sims. What's perhaps more interesting is the potential platform support.
The filing references computer, mobile and console gaming, suggesting Warner Bros could be considering a much broader release than its previous Wii and DS offering.
That would certainly make sense if the publisher is hoping to reach a much larger audience this time around.
For now, there's no official announcement, release date or confirmation that The Bachelor: Second Chance is even in active development.
Still, after the disappointing reception of its 2010 predecessor, it seems Warner Bros. might be willing to give The Bachelor another shot at gaming success.
