Assassin's Creed first-person mod makes the game's parkour utterly terrifying

This new first-person mod for Assassin's Creed Unity is utterly terrifying, as the game's parkour suddenly becomes a test in controlling your motion sickness.
For the longest time, the closest thing we could ever get to a first-person Assassin's Creed game was Mirror's Edge.
The concept of a first-person parkour game seems pretty niche, because we'd guess that the shaky camera and constant vertical movement would probably induce a lot of headaches. Some games have achieved it, like Dying Light, but the concept has never really gone far enough to break into the zeitgeist.
Still, that hasn't stopped one modder from doing just that, creating a first-person mod for Assassin's Creed Unity which puts the player into the exact viewpoint of Arno during his campaign in Revolutionary Paris.
The mod is very reminiscent of the Dying Light games, giving players a first-person view as they jump and climb their way around Paris.
Take a look at the video demonstrating the mod below, shared by X user The Hidden One. As you can see, it's pretty chaotic and certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea.
The new first-person mod for Assassin's Creed Unity is only for those with strong aversion to motion sickness
It functions by moving the camera to follow Arno's animated head, while also hiding the head and hood from the main view while keeping the shadow. The camera also pulls back automatically when you run into geometry.
You can toggle the first-person view with a key, just in case you want to switch between first-person and third-person at any time. This key can be changed at any time.
In terms of of other things you can configure, you can also change the eye height, forward offset, field of view, and smoothing. There's also optional combat-specific framing and motion following.
The mod also supports Leap of Faith camera movement, though this is optional in case anyone does get motion sick from this. Overall, around 493 parkour animations are supported.
If you'd like to download the first-person mod now, you can pick up ACUnityFirstPerson now from Nexus Mods. In order for it to function properly, you'll need to also download ACUFixes Plugin Loader to be able to use it.
Assassin's Creed fans have their own take on the mod, with reactions ranging from positive to negative.
"Hellllllll no, I’m terrified of heights, I’ll stick to third person. Incredible game though!," reads one reply underneath The Hidden Ones' post on X.
"Lol, I just saw a video on this mod. It definitely gives it that Dying Light feel. Hope he polishes it so it doesn't look like it's going to give me motion sickness, lmao," reads a second reply.
"I always wanted a Dishonoured-style Assassin's Creed. I guess dreams do come true in one form or another; this is an interesting mod," a third reply reads.
