Bloodborne must-play PC and console rival unveils sequel with incredible new setting

A new trademark filing by South Korean developer Neowiz suggests that plans for a Lies of P sequel are now underway.

2023’s Lies of P is often cited as one of the best soulslikes of the past generation, with visuals, sound design, and performance all praised by fans since release.

With the art direction of Lies of P’s fictional Krat city inspired by the visuals of Victorian London, many comparisons to Bloodborne have been made over the years, with the game now being one of the best games like Bloodborne you can play now.

Originally reported by FRVR, it now looks like Neowiz may be getting ready to reveal Lies of P’s sequel, filing a trademark for the name Wonders of O.

The trademark is filed under video game, suggesting it'll be a main sequel rather than a DLC or spin-off.

If that title hadn’t already given it away, the Lies of P sequel will ditch Krat’s dark cobbled streets for the brightly lit Emerald City and surrounding areas from The Wizard of Oz.

This setting was hinted at the end of Lies of P, where a post-credits scene revealed an alchemist named Philippus Paracelsus plans to find ‘Dorothy’. The scene then shifts to a rooftop in Krat, where someone clicks the heels of their shoes three times just as Dorothy does in The Wizard of Oz.

Wonders of O will feature Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz

While Lies of P was loosely based on the book The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, Wonders of O will be based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

However, don’t expect any content from the films or other modern adaptations to be included here, as Neowiz only included material from the public domain novel in Lies of P rather than anything that appeared in a film adaptation, and the same should be the case here.

That means Dorothy’s slippers will be silver rather than ruby, the Emerald City won’t be green, and we certainly won’t get a musical sequence featuring Defying Gravity belted out for all to hear.

Aside from this, there’s very little we know about Wonders of O at this time. Given the success of Lies of P and its Overture DLC, we imagine that it took very little for the sequel to be greenlit.

Still, it does lead us to wonder what kind of characters, bosses, and locations will appear in the sequel, and whether Krat will also feature in the game or if it’ll be entirely set in Oz.

If you’re yet to play Lies of P, we’d describe it as Bloodborne for literature nerds who really enjoy classic fantasy novels, like me.

The titular P refers to Pinocchio, the main playable character of the game, who awakens in the city of Krat amidst a puppet uprising, where you must find your creator, Giuseppe Geppetto and learn what is causing the mechanical puppets to revolt against their masters.
