After 6 Years, Capcom Announces Jill Valentine's Next Resident Evil Release Is Only 1 Month Away
After 6 Years, Capcom Announces Jill Valentine's Return For Resident Evil: Death Island Manga
It's been 6 years since Resident Evil's Jill Valentine appeared in 2020's Resident Evil 3 remake. While rumors suggest the original Resident Evil heroine was originally slated to appear alongside Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil: Requiem, that never materialized, leaving fans of Jill hungry for her next appearance. Though it's unclear when Jill might make her grand return to the mainline series of Resident Evil video games, that doesn't mean Capcom has been ignoring the most iconic Spencer Mansion survivor.
Most recently, Jill teamed up with fellow Resident Evil all-stars Chris, Leon, Claire, and Rebecca for 2023's Resident Evil: Death Island. That film, set in 2015, finally gave fans a look at Jill's life after the events of Resident Evil 5. While the film wasn't a runaway success, it was well-received by fans and currently holds a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes.
At the time, the film was also accompanied by a manga adaptation from mangaka ZINO Kodakujii. Now, that manga is getting a complete release from comics publisher Titan. Titan is releasing the complete edition of Resident Evil: Death Island's manga on September 29th, and to celebrate, Titan has revealed an epic trailer that showcases Kodakugi's great artwork.
Resident Evil: Death Island Promises More Of The Series' Signature Action Horror
The trailer released by Titan promises a truly epic journey as the main protagonists from the first two Resident Evil games work together to solve a bioterror outbreak originating from Alcatraz Island in San Francisco. Jill, Leon, Chris, and Claire appear to be facing impossible odds, as the trailer hints at the heroes facing a zombified killer whale and lion.
Though many fans will be familiar with the manga's story after having watched the original 2023 film it's adapting, the Death Island manga is still worth picking up based on the trailer. Kodakuji's artwork looks incredible and truly emphasizes Resident Evil's stylish blend of action and horror in a way that can be difficult to balance.
The complete manga is currently available for preorder through popular book sites like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and will retail for $12.99.
Resident Evil Is Finally Ready To Explore Jill Valentine's Post Resident Evil 5 Life
Despite Jill's abundant and proven popularity with Resident Evil fans, Capcom has been hesitant to give her the spotlight in recent years. For more than a decade, Jill's last canonical appearance in Resident Evil canon was Resident Evil 5, a game where she notably spent a good deal of time brainwashed and working for Wesker. Beyond that, Jill would earn a handful of mentions in files and emails found in Resident Evil: Revelations 2, but that was it.
Most recently, Jill appeared as the main character in 2020's Resident Evil 3 remake. While that was undeniably a treat for many, it only increased the need to see what Jill's next story would look like. Unfortunately, while there was an undeniable desire among many fans to see Jill Valentine appear in Resident Evil: Requiem, that never materialized.
This is what made Jill's appearance in Death Island so refreshing. Jill got to co-star with Leon in a thrilling adventure that served as a great reminder of why Jill remains so beloved. With Death Island's manga getting a proper Western release, fans will certainly be getting their fair share of Jill. Fans can only hope that Death Island is a signal that Capcom intends to bring Jill back for the next mainline Resident Evil game.
