Bloodborne 2 status explained after 11 years of sequel, remake and remaster rumours

Bloodborne 2 has been a long-sought after sequel to what is often considered to be one of the best video games of all time, but an official announcement may still be a long way off.

The complicated relationship between FromSoftware and Sony has put the Bloodborne IP in a state of uncertainty, with no certainty of whether a sequel, remake, or spin-off of the game could ever come to modern platforms.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped fans from wishing for a new entry to the Bloodborne franchise, with various projects aiming to keep interest in the series alive, in the hope that Sony and FromSoftware take note.

While we have The Duskbloods to look forward to on Nintendo Switch 2 - a game which looks like the multiplayer spiritual successor to Bloodborne we’ve always dreamed of - this still does leave the status of any real follow-up very cloudy.

Has Bloodborne 2 been announced?

Bloodborne 2 has not been announced. We don’t have any confirmed announcement, trailer, platforms, or price.

What is the latest Bloodborne 2 update?

There are currently no updates or recent announcements made on the status of Bloodborne 2.

The most recent announcement related to the franchise as a whole involves a collaboration between Sony and SuperGroupies, which includes several merchandise items based on the IP.

Bloodborne sequel updates timeline

Here’s what we know so far about what Sony or FromSoftware have said regarding any potential sequel or follow-up to Bloodborne.

  • July 2026: PlayStation’s Shuhei Yoshida says it remained a “complete mystery” why the original Bloodborne never received a PS5 or PC release.
  • February 2026: Bloomberg reports that a Bloodborne remake was pitched by Bluepoint Games, but the proposal didn’t proceed. Reports also indicate that it was FromSoftware that passed on the pitch, rather than Sony.
  • 2025: The Duskbloods announcement invites comparisons between the new Nintendo IP and Bloodborne. Despite being a separate game, many call it “we have Bloodborne at home”.
  • 2024: While Hidetaka Miyazaki does not announce a sequel or port to new systems, he says that he isn’t opposed to more players being able to experience the game on newer hardware.

What have Sony and FromSoftware said about Bloodborne 2?

As of right now, nothing has been said officially from Sony or FromSoftware regarding Bloodborne 2.

As the publisher and owner of the Bloodborne IP, Sony gets the final say in whether to greenlight a sequel or not.

However, given that FromSoftware also allegedly turned down a remaster of the original game from Bluepoint Games, it’s clear that the developer also has a say in how the IP is handled.

What has Hidetaka Miyazaki said about Bloodborne?

FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has made several comments over the years regarding his love for the Bloodborne IP.

When asked in 2019 about his favourite game to work on, Miyazaki said: “If I were to say which one stayed in my heart the most, it’s Bloodborne. It’s the one that marked me the most. I believe I did it my way, the way I wanted.”

However, he also stated that “unfortunately, I'm not the one to decide" regarding the possibility of a sequel.

He followed up on these comments in 2024 during the lead-up to the release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree: “Unfortunately, and I've said this in other interviews, it's not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don't own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we're not at liberty to speak to it.”

He told Eurogamer that “I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki said. "Things you weren't able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren't able to render specific expressions - [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible. However, I wouldn't say that's the be all and end all.

“I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform.”

Why hasn’t Bloodborne 2 happened?

No explanation has been made public as to why Bloodborne 2 hasn’t happened yet.

Since the release of Bloodborne in 2015, FromSoftware has released Dark Souls 3 (2016), Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019), Elden Ring (2022), Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon (2023), Elden Ring Nightreign (2025), and will soon be releasing The Duskbloods.

The likely reason seems to be that FromSoftware is too busy developing new IPs, as opposed to working on a follow-up to a game that it doesn’t own the rights to.

Would Bloodborne 2 be a PlayStation exclusive?

If Bloodborne 2 became a reality, it would likely stay exclusive to PlayStation. This is because Sony owns the publishing rights to the IP, and would only release the game on platforms where it would directly benefit from being sold.

Considering that Sony recently pulled away from releasing its blockbuster games on PC, it’s also very likely that any new Bloodborne projects would also not be released on platforms like Steam or Epic Games Store.

Given that the original Bloodborne served as an excellent addition to the early lifespan of the PlayStation 4, a potential Bloodborne sequel releasing on PS6 could be a system seller in very much the same way.

Bloodborne remake, remaster and PC rumours

A remake, port, or re-release of Bloodborne would be different from a Bloodborne sequel, though the news on that front is very much the same. As of right now, there are no confirmed official remakes, remasters, or PC ports of Bloodborne.

Bloodborne remake proposition

A Bloomberg report from earlier this year claimed that Bluepoint Games had pitched a Bloodborne remake in the same vein as the one it did for Demon’s Souls as a PS5 launch exclusive.

However, it’s claimed that this was done in the wake of its God of War live-service project being cancelled by Sony.

Sony had allegedly approved of the idea, but it did not proceed any further after FromSoftware apparently refused the proposal. This information appears in Bloomberg’s report, but Sony or FromSoftware have not officially confirmed this.

Is Bloodborne getting a PS5 remaster or 60fps update?

A PS5 remaster or 60fps of Bloodborne is not currently available, nor is it planned by Sony. The original game can be played on PlayStation 4, or via backwards compatibility on PS5. However, there are no noticeable improvements by playing the game on PS5.

Is Bloodborne ever coming to PC?

Bloodborne is not currently planned for PC in any official capacity, but Miyazaki’s claims of wanting more people to experience the game on different platforms gives us hope that it could one day change.

There are unofficial ways to play the game on PC if you have the means to do so. Bloodborne is in a playable state via emulation on ShadPS4, provided you have a powerful enough PC to do so.

ShadPS4 is capable of playing Bloodborne at 4K resolutions and 60fps with some tweaks, and can also load mods and other improvements. Of course, make sure that you have your original copy of Bloodborne so you can play it.
