10 Years Later, Ahsoka Tano's Best Line Is Still A Top 5 Star Wars Quote
After 10 years, one of Ahsoka Tano's best lines is still one of the best quotes in all of Star Wars. Over the years, the list of the best quotes in Star Wars has changed quite a bit. Many classics from the original trilogy of Star Wars movies, like quotes from Yoda or Darth Vader, still remain on the list, but the franchise has also produced a number of great new lines. From Padmé Amidala's liberty line in Revenge of the Sith to Kylo Ren's desire to let the past die in The Last Jedi, there's no shortage of moving quotes in Star Wars, both new and old.
Despite all the great new quotes Star Wars has come up with in the last 10 years, Ahsoka Tano's best quote is still one of the best in the franchise at large. There are a lot of great Ahsoka quotes to choose from, due partially to the massive amount of screen time she's had across The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Tales of the Jedi. However, her best quote came from Rebels, a series where she only appeared in about a dozen episodes total.
There are some great quotes in Star Wars Rebels, from Kanan Jarrus' teachings about the Force to Hera Syndulla's musings about the role hope plays in rebellion. Ahsoka herself is even responsible for a few of the show's best lines, but one of them is undoubtedly the best of the bunch. That line, "I am no Jedi," has stood the test of time for over a decade now, and it's still the best quote Ahsoka has said in Star Wars animation or live-action.
Ahsoka's "I Am No Jedi" Line Is Still One Of Star Wars' Best 10 Years Later
Ahsoka's very best quote came from the two-part finale of Rebels season 2, "Twilight of the Apprentice," which debuted in 2016. Just before a duel with Darth Vader, Ahsoka asserts that she's going to avenge her master, Anakin Skywalker, whom she believes Vader has killed, and Vader tells her revenge is not the Jedi way. She responds by coldly declaring, "I am no Jedi," before igniting her white lightsabers.
There is so much to love about Ahsoka's "I am no Jedi" line. Ashley Eckstein delivers it perfectly, giving Ahsoka a threatening aura and showcasing her determination. The line also carries so much history with it, namely Ahsoka's departure from the Jedi Order in The Clone Wars season 5 and the fact that she doesn't recognize Vader as Anakin yet. It felt like the climax of Ahsoka's story, like it was announcing a new stage of her life after years of character development.
Of course, "I am no Jedi" is also just really cool. Ahsoka is staring down Darth Vader, the second most dangerous man in the entire galaxy whom she believes murdered the man who taught her everything she knows, and she doesn't flinch. On top of that, her denying being a Jedi is a promise that she won't take mercy on Vader, and that the fight they were about to have was going to be more vicious and intense than anything before. It's a great line with great delivery and great stakes, and it's right up there with the best the franchise has to offer.
Ahsoka's "I Am No Jedi" Quote Is Unique Among Star Wars' Other Best Lines
Ahsoka's "I am no Jedi" quote is also a bit strange as far as Star Wars quotes go. So many of the best quotes in Star Wars earned that distinction because of the lines themselves and the actual meaning of the words being said. "Do or do not, there is no try," for example, is a sage piece of advice that can actually apply to people in the real world. Likewise, "So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause," is a poignant observation about politics and the creeping rise of fascism.
Ahsoka's quote, however, is kind of meaningless on its own. It's a simple statement of fact; she left the Jedi Order and is technically not a Jedi anymore. It also doesn't have any relevance to the real world, even though most people can recognize what a Jedi is. The reason Ahsoka's quote is so good isn't because it's an especially well-written piece of dialog, but rather because of the context it's said in and the way it's said, which doesn't happen often in Star Wars.

One of the only other quotes in the franchise that is so memorable not for the words themselves but for the context it's delivered in is Darth Vader's "No, I am your father." On paper, that's a very simple sentence, but in the context of The Empire Strikes Back, it's a stunning revelation that changes everything and one of the biggest plot twists in film history. Reading it doesn't do much, but hearing James Earl Jones growl it out of Darth Vader's mask sends chills down your spine.
Ahsoka's quote has mostly the same effect. On paper, it's just a statement, but for longtime Star Wars fans, it represents a huge change in her character, her long-awaited and emotionally charged showdown with her former master, and so much more. Ashley Eckstein also does a tremendous job of conveying Ahsoka's resolution and her simmering anger. It's a quote that is as unique to the franchise as it is great, and it's easily one of the very best in Star Wars history.
