GTA 6 quietly drops surprise new trailer and we're hyped by what we're seeing

Grand Theft Auto VI is within touching distance, with the highly anticipated title set to finally launch in just three months time.

It’s available for pre-order now across both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with fans able to select from a Standard or Ultimate Edition; a PC version remains unconfirmed.

Amid all of this, fans are still avidly waiting for a third trailer.

It was on May 6 2025, that the game’s second trailer arrived, so a fresh look is long overdue. Thankfully, one has now arrived courtesy of PlayStation.

Rockstar Games is yet to reveal much in the way of raw gameplay. The game’s second trailer reportedly consisted of 50% gameplay, but it was presented in a cinematic way.

We’ve not yet caught a glimpse of the game’s UI, and we certainly haven’t seen any unedited, extended gameplay.

Unfortunately, that much remains true, but PlayStation has dropped a brief new look at GTA VI in its new ‘It Happens On PS5’ trailer.

You can watch the new ‘It Happens On PS5’ trailer below

We’ve seen trailers of this ilk before from PlayStation that essentially act as a highlight reel for upcoming releases in a bid to drum up hype … not that you need to for GTA VI.

In the one-minute-long trailer, GTA VI first appears at around the 24-second mark as we see Lucia and Jason escaping in a car.

Given that Jason is scrambling around in the backseat, it’s perhaps safe to assume that the duo are in a getaway car after some kind of unlawful wrongdoing.

The graphics look crisp, with the high-octane action almost definitely lifted directly from a game sequence rather than being a cinematic created just for a flashy trailer.

Later on, at around the 43-second mark, we see a glimpse of Jason riding a motorcycle as a plane passes overhead.

Elsewhere, the trailer highlights Marvel’s Wolverine, God of War Laufey, and EA Sports FC 27, as well as a couple of prior releases.

GTA VI ‘Plays Best’ on PS5 with exclusive features expected to be revealed

It’s not a total surprise that PlayStation is heavily pushing GTA VI. Obviously, there’s major profit to be had in doing so, but PlayStation and Rockstar Games have also partnered up.

GTA VI is being marketed as playing “best on PS5”. Neither team has particularly gone into how they’ve come to that conclusion, but it’s perhaps safe to assume that the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback will be well utilised.

The trailer has likely been released by PlayStation to try and sweep the backlash to its upcoming disc policy under the rug,

From January 2028, PlayStation will stop offering discs as it moves to an all-digital future and the news went down - quite rightly - about as well as a fart in a lift.

The announcement was made on July 1 2026, and fans continue to protest it to this day.

A quick trip to the comments section of this latest trailer on YouTube proves that.

“Discs used to happen on PS5,” said one viewer, while another added, “Greed has no limits.”

XBOX PRE-ORDER: GAME UK | Loaded | Amazon UK | Amazon US | Walmart

PlayStation has not yet shown any inkling that it’ll u-turn the decision. The backlash is unlikely to harm GTA VI’s sales, though, which could very quickly become the best-selling game of all-time.
