A new version of Scary Movie 6 is officially releasing on digital this week.

Scary Movie is coming to digital in a very different way following its mixed level of success after releasing in theaters last month. The parody movie is the first in the franchise since 2013's Scary Movie 5, pulling from the 13 years of horror movies that followed to create an all-encompassing parody of various popular movies and franchises. However, Scary Movie was panned by critics, the film earning a 23% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 134 reviews. But the movie was better received by audiences, who helped make it a box office success.

Now, according to new listings, an extended version of 2026's Scary Movie will be available to purchase digitally starting Tuesday, July 21 at 12 a.m. ET. Although the current listing shows the time as being 96 minutes, the same length as the theatrical cut, the description promises "all-new scenes" without being descriptive about it. This could include other parody moments from movies that didn't make the cut, or more Ghostface moments to add to the franchise's classic parody of the slasher villain.

Despite earning poor reception from critics, the movie has a 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 5,000 verified reviews. While this makes reception of the movie more mixed than negative, it still showcases how the average moviegoer enjoyed the parody elements of Scary Movie more than critics did. This is further reflected in the box office performance, with the film earning $230.1 million against a $30 million budget, making it the second highest-grossing movie in the franchise. The movie is clearly beloved despite its poor critical reception.

Everything from Scary Movie's post-credits scenes to its massive number of parody elements have helped make it the success that it's become. This could be furthered by the release of the extended edition, especially because of the promise of additional scenes which can further expand upon what the movie has already tackled. Although there's no telling what the movie's new sequences are going to add, there are plenty of moments that can be lengthened or added that keep up the trend of modern horror spoofing.

The Scary Movie franchise earning such revitalization showcased a continued love for the series, especially because of the Wayans brothers being involved for the first time since the first and second installments. Even with little information on what the extended cut brings to the table, the movie's earnings coupled with audience positivity means there's a strong possibility the new version gets lots of attention upon its release. The extended cut will be available on all major digital storefronts, making it easy to purchase and watch once it arrives.

Thanks to its success at the box office, Scary Movie seems poised to do well at home, too, especially if the extended cut can draw in viewers who want to see even more of what the parody film has to offer. The procurement of new scenes is a big selling point, and something that could help the new release become a success in its own right.
