PS5 gamer 'feels empty' after 'peak gaming' experience ruins their excitement for GTA 6
Grand Theft Auto VI is only set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which means that PC gamers have an unfortunate dilemma on their hands.
A PC port of GTA VI is likely to trail the console launch by at least one year.
Waiting for a game like GTA VI when half of the world has their hands on it can’t be easy, which is why many PC gamers are snapping up consoles.
One Reddit user has done just that, purchasing a PlayStation 5 console and amid the wait for GTA VI, they’ve found a game hailed as “peak” that is so good it’s completely ruined their excitement for Rockstar Games’ next title.
“Bought a PS5 for GTA VI, played The Last of Us Part II as a filler… and now I’m not even excited for GTA VI,” began the post by Alfoneye.
“I played through The Last of Us Part I remake on a family member’s PS5 a few years ago, but at the time I had no interest in playing the PS4 version of Part II. Fast forward to now: I got caught up in the GTA VI hype and decided to buy a PS5, since I didn’t own a console and wanted to get the experience.
“Since I didn't have any games, I subscribed to PlayStation Plus to test out the system while waiting for November, which is when I saw that The Last of Us Part II had received a remaster, so I downloaded it on a whim.”
They continued, “I was pretty sceptical at first, but I finished it yesterday, and I’m still kind of in shock. I read a lot of books and watch a lot of films, and taken as a complete experience, this is genuinely one of the best stories I’ve ever consumed. [...] The writing, performances, graphics and sound design were all insane.”
The OP went on to add that they played The Last of Us Part II on “an 85-inch QD Mini-LED TV in performance mode with a 5.1 surround sound system”.
“The quality just felt ridiculous at times. There were moments where I had to remind myself I was playing a game and not just watching some insanely expensive film. Now I’ve finished it, and I just feel empty. I bought the PS5 specifically because I was excited for GTA VI, and now I have almost no desire to play anything else. I don't see how GTA VI can come close to this.”
The post almost reads like s**tposting, and if that’s what this user is doing, consider us thoroughly entertained.
The thing is, though, is that this take is entirely plausible. The Last of Us Part II is that good.
It delivers on all fronts with an incredibly fluid combat system, flawless writing, impressive graphics, and full utilisation of the PS5’s bells and whistles.
It’s why, here at GAMINGbible, we awarded The Last of Us Part II Remastered a perfect score of 10 out of 10 in our review.
Fellow Reddit users seem to be taking the OP at face value

“I’m sorry to tell you that you have experienced peak gaming and nothing else will match up,” replied TheGlenrothes.
“As someone who is a massive fan of TLOU2, I get what you mean about feeling empty and not wanting to play anything else, but how can you compare GTA VI to this? Completely different games,” ThisMayBeAquatic asked.
The OP replied, “My bad, man just a bit emotional right after that.” The Last of Us Part II does get you like that.
Of course, the game isn’t for everyone. There are some who don’t agree with that major plot point and a certain change in the playable character.
If you have picked up a PS5 in order to play GTA VI, The Last of Us Part II is definitely a game we’d recommend playing in the meantime.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered is included on PlayStation Plus’ extra tier.
