MTG Marvel Sets: 4 Crossover Predictions for 2027 and Beyond

Magic: The Gathering has shown it’s happy to return to planes within the confines of its own universe, but the game’s Universes Beyond sets with Marvel are really only getting started.

Last year’s underwhelming Spider-Man set was followed up by the much more impressive Marvel Super Heroes set in 2026, but we’re expecting many more to come. After two Infinity Stones appeared in those sets, we’re still waiting for another four of them to appear.

Here are our Marvel set predictions for 2027 and beyond. Looking for our wider Universes Beyond predictions? Check out our ideas so far.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Conspicuous by their absence in the Marvel Super Heroes set are the Guardians of the Galaxy, but given it’s predominantly centered around New York City it’s perhaps not too surprising.

Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot feel like they could helm a five-color Commander deck, but beyond that, there’s a whole host of cosmic characters we could see.

Beta Ray Bill, Ronan, Gladiator, Nova, Adam Warlock, Nebula, and many more would be great inclusions, but it would also allow for extra printings of Galactus, Silver Surfer, and more. Given Star Trek is coming soon, and Edge of Eternities introduced Spacecraft, expect a card for The Milano.

X-Men and X-Force

Yes, we know - some X-Men have been included in the Marvel Super Heroes set, but it’s time for a wider slate of mutants from Xavier’s school and Magneto’s Brotherhood.

It’s likely cards like Wolverine and Storm would see reprints (and maybe fresh designs), but a two-faced card with Jean Grey and the Dark Phoenix, or saga cards for Days of Future Past and more would be awesome.

We’ll take a few more, too, since the likes of Deadpool have been included in Secret Lair drops but aren’t part of the Marvel set. Oh, and Gambit, please, but with an ability that lets you ping a card at your opponent.

Midnight Sons

Marvel has long had a spooky side, and while the Midnight Suns video game remains an underrated gem, the source team, The Midnight Sons, would be an awesome inclusion in Magic form.

Blade, Morbius, Ghost Riders, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone, and even Doctor Strange and Wong could make appearances, and the main roster has included the likes of Scarlet Spider, Iron Fist, and many, many more.

That gives a chance to bring back the horror theming of, say, Duskmourn, reviving mechanics like manifest dread.

Secret Wars

This could also be another major story moment, but an event set around Secret Wars, which is expected to be the focus of the next big tentpole MCU movie after Doomsday, feels like a given.

The set could include just about anyone transported to Battleworld, teeing up iconic moments that we won’t spoil here in case you’ve not read up on the source material yet.

Secret Wars would be a fitting endcap to the Marvel x MtG crossovers, and you just know we’d get some kind of crazy rare God Emperor Doom card…
