After months of waiting, Marvel Studios has finally released the first official full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday to the public. Although some of the biggest reveals may already be familiar to those who attended CinemaCon earlier this year, everyone finally getting to watch the new MCU footage in high quality is certainly exciting in its own right. Combined with some additional reveals, there's a lot to unpack.

Adding greater context to the four Avengers: Doomsday teasers released at the beginning of the year, the new Doomsday trailer lays out the massive stakes, as well as the best look yet at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Featuring the return of beloved heroes and epic match-ups between iconic Avengers and X-Men, Avengers: Doomsday is primed to be one of the biggest MCU movies of all time.

Here are all the biggest reveals and moments from the new trailer, along with an intriguing Doctor Doom poster just released by Marvel Studios as well.

The trailer opens with Professor Charles Xavier (Sir Patrick Stewart) witnessing major devastation outside his window. While the details are intentionally obscured, it certainly does look to be an entire planet ready to collide with this world, a massive multiversal incursion, as seen in the original comics. This shot also connects with the X-Men-focused Avengers: Doomsday teaser, which saw Xavier in the same room with Magneto as the two were shown preparing for the end together.

Avengers: Doomsday's first public trailer has also given us our best look yet at Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, shown wearing the supervillain's iconic mask, armor, hood, and green robes. Not only that, but RDJ's voice as Doctor Doom is heard as well, seemingly warning the movie's heroes that something that cannot be deterred is coming and that an unthinkable decision will have to be made.

This supports the theory that Doom may initially present himself as an ally, offering the movie's multiple teams of heroes from different worlds a means to save their own reality if they're willing to sacrifice the others.

Chris Hemsworth's Thor is shown speaking with the assembled New Avengers, Fantastic Four, Sam Wilson's Captain America, and Scott Lang's Ant-Man in the New Avengers' Watchtower. It's an impressive group of heroes, even if Thor does share that the imminent dangers to come scare him more and are far more powerful than anything he's faced before, with even stronger heroes.

As seen on the monitors behind assembled heroes, it looks as though three worlds are in danger of colliding in a major multiversal incursion, presumably the Avengers' Earth-616, The Fantastic Four's Earth-828, and the Earth belonging to the X-Men.

Seeing as how the mutant heroes aren't featured in this scene, it's possible that while The Fantastic Four and Avengers are working together to try and save all three worlds, the X-Men may believe they have no choice but to end the other two worlds before losing their own.

Shuri's Black Panther, King M'Baku, and more warriors of Wakanda are shown facing off with Namor and his forces from his undersea kingdom of Talokan. Given the context of the full trailer, it's likely that Wakanda will be seeking an alliance with Talokan to face the coming threats, though their initial arrival seemingly starts rocky, which isn't super surprising considering the uneasy truce the nations formed at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

As Thor lands in the ruins of what is likely the Xavier Mansion to face Doctor Doom, the remains of what looks to be two mutant-hunting Sentinels can be seen in the background. To that end, they may very well be part of the same group of Sentinels seen in the background of the X-Men's Doomsday teaser when Cyclops unleashes his powerful optic blast.

The first major Avengers vs X-Men showdown seen in this new Doomsday trailer sees Channing Tatum's Gambit with his mutant kinetic powers taking on Shang-Chi and his powerful Ten Rings. Based on these few shots alone, it's almost certain that this will be one of the movie's coolest sequences (though the new shot of James Marsden's Cyclops is pretty cool as well).

Tom Hiddleston's Loki is featured in Avengers: Doomsday's new trailer as well. However, he's not wearing the crown and new green robes seen in the finale of Loki season 2, nor is he sitting on his new throne as a new god and multiversal protector keeping multiple realities together.

Iron Man (2008) is, in retrospect, the most consequential casting decision in modern blockbuster history — but at the time Marvel Studios and parent company Paramount were openly hostile to director Jon Favreau’s push for the lead actor he eventually got. Favreau later said he had to fight “tooth and nail” and the actor had to do a paid screen test, a screen-test deal almost unheard of for an A-lister. What was the executive objection to him?

The Avengers (2012) — the film that proved the shared-universe model could work, grossed $1.52 billion, and ended Phase One with Loki, Thanos’s mid-credits reveal, and the “swarm shot” of the team rotating in Manhattan — was written and directed by a TV showrunner best known at the time for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. Name him.

✓ Correct! Joss Whedon. Marvel hired him in mid-2010 partly on the basis of his uncredited script rewrites and his comfort writing ensemble team dynamics from Buffy/Angel/Firefly. He directed The Avengers (2012) and the follow-up Age of Ultron (2015), then exited the MCU and Marvel handed the next two Avengers films to the Russo brothers. Across Phase One through Three, each Infinity Stone is hidden inside a distinctive container before being claimed for Thanos’s Gauntlet. The blue Space Stone is housed inside a glowing cube that originates with the Asgardians, is recovered by Howard Stark from the wreckage of the Red Skull’s plane, is taken to Asgard by Loki in 2012, and is finally retrieved by Hulk on Sakaar before falling to Thanos. What is that container called?

✓ Correct! The Tesseract — the blue cube that houses the Space Stone — first appears in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), powers the portal Loki opens over Manhattan in The Avengers (2012), and is destroyed by Thanos in Infinity War (2018) when he crushes it to claim the stone inside. The wrong options are all real Infinity Stone containers from the MCU: the Aether (red liquid form) houses the Reality Stone in Thor: The Dark World, the Orb houses the Power Stone in Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Eye of Agamotto houses the Time Stone in Doctor Strange. So all four answers refer to genuine stone containers — only the Tesseract holds Space.

✗ Wrong. The answer is the Tesseract. To claim it, the seeker must sacrifice the person they love most by throwing them from a cliff. Thanos arrives on Vormir with one adopted daughter, weeps, and pushes her over the edge. Which character does Thanos sacrifice to obtain the Soul Stone?

✓ Correct! Gamora (Zoe Saldaña). Thanos forces her to lead him to Vormir because Nebula has earlier revealed under torture that Gamora knew the Soul Stone’s location all along. He returns to the present as an old man, sits on a bench by the lake at the Avengers compound, and hands his vibranium shield to a younger Avenger as the symbolic transfer of the Captain America identity. To whom does Steve give the shield?

✓ Correct! Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) — the Falcon. The choice deliberately bypasses Bucky, the original comics successor, because the Russos and screenwriters Markus & McFeely wanted the moment to read as a deliberate, racially-charged passing of an American icon rather than the obvious comics-canon handoff. The thread is then picked up directly in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney+, 2021), in which Sam initially gives the shield to the Smithsonian, sees the government install John Walker as a replacement Cap, and ultimately takes the mantle himself — setting up Captain America: Brave New World (2025) with Mackie as the franchise’s new lead.

Still in the same area surrounded by the ocean where Wakanda was shown meeting with Talokan, Shuri and King M'Baku are seen meeting with a mix of Avengers, New Avengers, and The Fantastic Four, connecting to the Wakanda/FF Doomsday teaser where M'Baku and Ben Grimm's The Thing were shown introducing themselves while the Black Panther narrated, talking about the King of Wakanda having his duties to prepare their people for the afterlife, while she had hers.

Featured behind Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) next to Sam Wilson's Captain America (Anthony Mackie) and Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), none other than the beloved robot HERBIE is featured in the background.
