Mass Effect Officially Returns With A New RPG In 2026
Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz Is A New RPG Arriving In 2026
There's little doubt in the minds of most right-thinking people that the original Mass Effect trilogy is one of the best RPG series in the history of video games. Tracking Commander Shepherd's efforts against the Collectors, Reapers, and all sorts of other threats really did feel like participating in a Hollywood movie on the scale of Interstellar or 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Though the follow-up was an immeasurable disappointment, there is another game confirmed to be in development at Bioware, and it's a chance to restore one of the most legendary gaming IPs of all-time to the top of the tree. While we wait for that, there is another Mass Effect release on the way that could be just as exciting, and it's in an entirely different medium.
Over on the official Modiphius website, you should be able to find the pre-order page for Mass Effect: The Board Game - Priority Hagalaz. The upcoming release features many of the most iconic characters from the series, including Garrus, Liara, Tali, and Wrex, as well as everyone's favorite leader, Commander Shepherd.
In confirming what fans can expect from the game, the developer shared the following insight on their website:
"The year is 2186. On the remote world Hagalaz, a research cruiser from the terrorist organization Cerberus has crashed directly in the path of a deadly storm. With little time before the storm hits, Shepard must lead their squad through the cruiser to uncover its sinister secrets and keep them out of the hands of the enemy. However, the ship holds more dangers than just its former crew…
"Mass Effect the Board Game – Priority : Hagalaz is a cooperative, story-driven game for 1-4 players designed by Eric M. Lang and Calvin Wong Tze Loon 黃子倫. Branching narrative and multiple outcomes ensure unique experiences with every playthrough. Renegade may be an efficient path to victory, but Paragon scores higher War Readiness. The choice is yours."
It's really interesting that they are planning to employ so many of the systems that the game pioneered, including the Paragon and Renegade morality meter, as well as War Readiness and interactions with your crew members.
It'll also be interesting to see where exactly the game is set in the overall timeline, though Cerberus' reputation as a "terrorist" organization is clearly already secure.
In even better news, you won't have too long to wait to give it a go, with Mass Effect: The Board Game - Priority Hagalaz set to release later this year. The developer has also already confirmed that an expansion is coming in 2027, with six new squadmates, different ways to play, and new loyalty missions.
