Xbox Showed Off Some Trading Cards And Fans Want To Know Where To Send Their Money
Xbox trading cards are real. Not only have I seen them, but someone from the Xbox UK social team was brazen enough to open a pack on video and post the results for the world to see. Now people want to know where these cards came from and how they can get their hands on them, but Xbox won’t say.

The pack opening was shared via the Xbox UK Instagram account earlier this week. Inside are cards that pull characters and locations from various Xbox properties. Vault Boy from Fallout, Crash Bandicoot, and full art cards for Master Chief and the Oblivion gates. There’s even a Lumiere card in there, the town from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Not an Xbox-published game, but it launched day one on Game Pass.
The opening ends with a third full art card dedicated to the Duke, the iconic controller that came with the original Xbox. The comment section on the post is, predictably, filled with people asking where they need to send their money to get some of these cards. No one in an official capacity has replied, nor has there been a follow-up post explaining where these cards came from and whether they’ll ever be available to buy.

via: knowyourmeme.comI’ve been doing some digging since the cards were shown off, and beyond the Xbox UK post, there is no evidence to suggest these cards even exist. However, from the little I’ve learned, the most likely explanation appears to be that a few of these packs were given to Xbox employees at a recent event. Perhaps during Summer Game Fest, since that was likely the last time there would have been a gathering during which something like this might have been handed out.
As for why someone in an official capacity decided to record a pack opening and tease the world with something it can never have, I have a theory based on how Xbox has approached things since Asha Sharma became CEO. My guess is that this is a way to test the waters. Gauge interest, and if enough people are clamoring for these cards to be released into the wild, they’ll eventually be mass-produced and sold.
It’s equally as likely, if not a little more likely, that thought hasn’t even crossed anyone’s mind, and this was simply a fun idea for a social post that might get some attention. The owner of one of these limited-edition card packs asked if it would be okay to reveal them to the world, got the okay, and here we are. I’m a sucker for anything I like being turned into a trading card, so until I hear otherwise, I’ll cling to the hope that these cards will be available to buy someday. Or that if there are multiple packs out there, one of them mysteriously shows up on eBay one day.
