Black Myth Wukong sequel gets a 15-minute gameplay trailer

Exactly a year ago, the studio behind Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science, surprise announced a full-blown sequel for the hit action game. Dubbed Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the title was confirmed to have a new protagonist, and the studio said that it is experimenting with different gameplay styles for the sequel. Today, Game Science surprised fans again, and this time with a gameplay reveal.
Seen below, the studio dropped 15 minutes of footage from the upcoming title, including long stretches of taking out ordinary goons, cutscenes featuring new NPCs, and even a multi-stage boss fight. There is also a big montage at the end showing off more snippets of campaign cutscenes, bosses, and NPCs, which you might want to avoid if you don't like spoilers.
"The promotional footage we’re sharing this early may naturally differ from the final release; some of what we’re exploring is still experimental," said the studio about today's big reveal in a separate FAQ page.
It seems August 20 has become a special day for the studio to reveal new stuff from its internal projects going forward.
Game Science has confirmed that Zhong Kui will be a single-player action RPG much like Wu Kong was and also rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore.
"Furthermore, as you may have gathered from the latest gameplay footage, we hope to preserve the many things players loved about the previous Black Myth title, while also eagerly exploring distinctive gameplay tailored to the new protagonist, cutting-edge technical features, and differentiated approaches to storytelling," adds the studio.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is currently planned for release on PC and "major consoles," though a release window has not been confirmed yet. The studio says that it wants the game's state to be "good enough to impress even our seasoned, seen-it-all colleagues" before a release date announcement, explaining that it may take a while.
