Unreleased Star Wars Series Is Officially Dropping Episodes For The First Time After 13 Years
Seth Green reveals at San Diego Comic-Con that an unaired Star Warsshow will finally be released.
The Star Wars franchise is still predominantly celebrated for its movies, but the George Lucas-created universe has expanded to include a variety of TV shows, both live-action and animated. Recent efforts like The Mandalorian and Andor have been big hits on Disney+, while animated endeavors like Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch have also developed passionate followings.
During a panel at SDCC for which ScreenRant was in attendance, Green reveals that episodes of one unreleased animated series called Star Wars Detours are finally set to become available. Though unfortunately not heading to Disney+, the Simpsons-like comedy show will be on display at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which opens its doors on September 22. “We made a show with George [Lucas]. An animated series. He wanted to make The Simpsons in the Star Wars universe. It’s called Detours. There’s going to be a curation of episodes from that show on display for the public in the museum.”
In total, 39 episodes of Detour were produced, all of which have been on hold since 2013. The show, which is different from other animated Star Wars shows in the sense that it parodies the franchise, was an unfortunate casualty of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012.
Produced by Lucasfilm Animation, each episode of Star Wars Detours is essentially a self-contained comedy sketch, exploring the lives of ordinary civilians in the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Each episode of the show is about half an hour long, but these episodes were further segmented into bite-sized chunks of about six minutes.
