Peacock's live-action TV adaptation of Dungeon Crawler Carl has officially found its very first actor for a major role. Jeff Hays, the narrator behind the audiobook of the same name, will be joining the series as the voice of Princess Donut. The news was revealed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, giving fans of the bestselling comic book franchise a very welcome update.
Hays appeared as a surprise guest on the Dungeon Crawler Carl panel. He joined series writer and executive producer Chris Yost as well as the author and co-executive producer Matt Dinniman. This was the narrator's first San Diego Comic-Con panel of his career.
Hays is arguably most well-known for his work on the Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks. His performances have become synonymous with the series for many fans. The voice actor's portrayal of Princess Donut has been one of the major highlights of the franchise, making his role in the adaptation an exciting announcement for avid readers.
Peacock's upcoming Dungeon Crawler Carl series is being produced by Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door banner in partnership with Universal Global Television. Yost will also be leading the show's writing team alongside his other duties.
The TV show arrives years after the Dungeon Crawler Carl franchise's debut. Dinniman's novels have sold more than 14 million copies across print, digital, and audio worldwide, landing the series a spot on several bestseller lists. The books have also become one of the most recognizable titles within the LitRPG genre.
Much of that success was arguably fueled by the audiobook editions narrated by Hays. According to Audible, people have spent more than 140 million hours listening to the series. They also helped put Dungeon Crawler Carl on The New York Times Audio Fiction bestseller list, where it became the only complete series to occupy every spot on the list in one month. Hays' performances have been praised by fans, many of whom were impressed by the unique voices he uses for each character.
