New Fallout 4 expansion endorsed by Bethesda has players saying it's better than the base game
Almost 11 years after Fallout 4 launched, a new Bethesda-endorsed expansion has players praising the work of modders, with one fan even suggesting their designs now outshine the original game.
Launched this week on October 21, Command Override comes from Hobgoblin Studios and is part of Bethesda's Verified Creations programme, which supports officially approved projects from community developers.
The new adventure takes players inside RobCo's Boston headquarters, where they can investigate secret technology, take on Gunners and turn the Commonwealth's robots against their enemies.
However, it's the quality of the Fallout mod's new equipment and gameplay mechanics that has particularly impressed fans.
Fallout 4 fans praise Command Override's impressive new features

When the official Fallout X (formerly Twitter) account shared footage of Command Override, one fan replied: "I like how a lot of these Mods have so much more polish and are more visually interesting than the base game’s designs."
Another wrote: "Wow this looks amazing. Fallout 4 modders are talented now. This is awesome."
The reactions follow the introduction of some substantial new features, starting with the Beam Gun, an experimental energy weapon that delivers a continuous laser blast. It also doubles as a robot-hacking tool, allowing players to change a machine's behaviour to Friendly, Frenzy, Shutdown or Self-Destruct, or remotely pilot it themselves.
Meanwhile, the Ghost Pilot Suit offers an alternative approach, revealing enemies through walls and activating invisibility when its wearer crouches and remains still. With that, players can stay concealed whilst commanding robots elsewhere.
There's more than equipment to collect, as well. The 'Down to the Wire' quest, for instance, introduces a new RobCo dungeon, puzzles, a boss battle and a storyline involving General Hayes and Project Ghost Pilot.
There’s lots of early buzz elsewhere, too

Players who've already tried Fallout 4’s new Command Override expansion mod have also shared positive reactions on Reddit.
One commenter on a post at the ‘verifiedcreations’ subreddit particularly praised the new Beam Gun, writing: "I'm not even into energy weapons, but this thing has awesome mods — looks and sounds amazing and melts through enemies."
Another player wrote: "I just completed it, it's pretty fun, and you can hack pretty much any robot…The controls for the robots are kinda confusing, but beyond that, very fun creation."
Not everyone is entirely convinced, however, with some fans raising concerns about the cost of paid Creations and technical problems with previous releases — leaving them to wait for some more reviews in the meantime.
Unlike the free FEVer Dreams expansion released during the same Fallout Day celebrations, Command Override costs 500 Creation Credits.
If you’re already keen to try out this new addition, though, the new Fallout 4 mod is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC through Bethesda's Creations platform.
